Looks like a [Coronella austriaca](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smooth_snake) or it’s another Colubridae species. It’s absolutely harmless for humans. There are only two venomous snake species in Switzerland, both of which are very shy and they are usually not seen near housing areas. Moreover, it is said to be difficult to annoy it enough to make it bite.
Nice. I have seen a 1,5m snake crossing my path between Tash and Zetmatt a couple of years ago. Always nice to see
He’s just a harmless danger noodle buddy. He’s not venomous.
schwarze viper.. wie ein bienenstich. testen und feedback geben 😉
If it’s a swiss snake you can probably just politely ask him
C’est une couleuvre c’est pas venimeux
Looks like some people know about snakes here, the head give more clues for people who don’t know much
Touch it and tell us later
He only bites during office hours on weekdays, don’t worry!
Ps: snakes in your garden is generally good, as almost all species of snakes are pest removers. That one most likely eats mice and insects it comes across, so your garden actually benefits from it being around!
After the “lion” incident in Epalinges, I’m starting to think the canton of Vaud has somehow been moved to the tropics.
Going to keep my eyes peeled for flamingos in the Léman.
Look her in the eyes. If the pupils are round –> everything is OK. If pupils are vertical –> run for your life 🙂
There are exceptions, but those 2 Swiss venomous vipers which others mentioned, have thin, vertical pupils.
Looks innocent but who knows!

It’s a [“couleuvre”](https://fr.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natrix_natrix). These are harmless. In general there are no really dangerous snakes in Switzerland.
