Found an old power bank today and it's expanded to a level that is unsafe, very much a r/spicypillow.
What is the plan of action here.. currently in Antrim and the local council recycling centre can't take it and local hazardous waste companies can't take it.
Currently in a bucket of sand in the back garden, until such time I have a plan.
Any help welcome..

Throw it in Lough Neagh, it might kill the algae /s
I like my lithium batteries like I like my men.
Girthy.
Me right now, wondering how many old pieces of tech I have littered about the house that could potentially become incendiary devices.

Recycling centre must take it. Just ask where the battery container is and throw it there.
I hear stabbing it with a pointy knife fixes it.
If all else fails, maybe call up a phone repair place? They probably have to dispose of spicy pillows all the time and might be able to point you in the right direction.
Council recycling centre should have a battery bin
Paul from Subbytech here. Keep it in the bucket until you can transport it to a recycling centre. They can take them and sounds like you did indeed just disturb their break lol.
If you need another power bank, I’ll send you one, a treat from Subbytech 😁

I took a 12v burglar alarm backup battery to Screwfix. I assume they’ll take lithium ones too.
River
Me and the boy took our blown lipo batteries to the garden and shit them with a crossbow. Wholesome fun.
lidl have battery recycling bins
It is a conundrum. Here in Canada, they have little battery recycle bins in some stores. Just made of hard cardboard. I had one doing that. It looked like it was about to blow up. I asked the store clerk, “Are you sure I can pop it in there?” She said no problem. I could not be settled with that. Walking away, I felt like I had left a bomb in the store. Too many YouTube videos, I guess.
Hit it with a hammer, flatten that shit down and it’s as good as new 👍 /s
Well it’s dangerous to keep it home and this is probably bad advice but you’ve tried to do the right thing so drop it in a public bin somewhere.
What other alternative do you have really.
People will just say bin
I saw a battery pack blow up a few months back in a hotel reception. Desk and chairs around it on fire.
Let’s just say if it went on fire in a drawer, you’d have no house
I’ve got the same thing, I’m going to contact the council and ask what I need to do with it because I don’t feel safe handling it.
Just charge it, will be grand.
Outside until u figure it out
Controlled demolition. Take it to an empty carpark and throw rocks at it 😂
Didn’t realise these were an issue. I’d have just threw it in the bin after shitting on it, of course.
Any retailer that sells 32kg or more of portable batteries a year must offer a free collection point for used or waste batteries, including laptop/mobile phone/etc. batteries.
32kg a year is about four AA batteries a day, so the bar is not high.

Knock a hole in it and the problem will take care of itself.
Found two Samsungs in the same condition, newtownabbey council told me to chuck them into the battery skip at the dump (notably beside the gas canisters)
Remember kids: if you’ve any old phones, power banks, MP3 players, or the like and don’t plan on using them much, leave them on until the battery drains completely before storing them away. Flat batteries are a lot less likely to expand and do scary shit like this. It can still happen, but it’ll take far longer and be a lot less drastic.
