just saw the ,,Bundestag,, giving standing Ovations after Olaf Scholz announced Germany will raise its annual military spending to more than 2% of the Annual overall Budget + an additional 100 Billion for a start.

As someone with both German and American Citizenship, living in Germany my whole life, this kinda goes against everything we got taught in school regarding the role of Germany in World War 2.
I do understand the overall reason is the War in Ukraine, however – I don’t understand the shift that happened in politics over the last few days and the general mindset change overall – since
I thought some of these changes would/will trigger world war 3.
TLDR: Why is Germany raising their Military Budget instead of Humanitarian Support/other things?
