  13. It’s pretty ironic. Anchorage was supposed to emerge as a new global hub due to the isolation of Russia like during the Cold War. During the Cold War, civilian airlines from Europe to East Asia couldn’t fly over the Soviet Union. As a result, they had to chart longer, northern routes that often included refueling stops in Anchorage. It was one of the most important cities in the U.S.

    However, now that the world has completely failed to isolate Russia, Anchorage is rolling out a red carpet for Putin for his first official visit in more than two decades.

    This perfectly symbolizes complete capitulation of the West before Russia.
