> The life sentence was not the result of routine legal processes, they argue, but of the family’s own costly and emotionally draining decision to press for a murder charge rather than accept a manslaughter prosecution.
> During the trial, the family was forced to prove Vendi looked underage and confront rulings that the crime was not “particularly brutal,” a standard they say defies moral logic when a child is raped and murdered in a forest.
What the fuck. So they had to go through emotional trauma and financial predicament for that.
The justice system in this country is a fucking joke, and seems nobody is interested in doing anything about that. I guess no politicians or judges, nor their families are victims….

I forget why people don’t like defense attorneys, until I read things like this.
I feel this. The cuts are so immense and I am starting an internship soon. Because I am in a Finnish course, I am not allowed to earn any money in an internship, but we also need to pay the transportation fees from our own pockets. I have Finnish friends who do not get paid for their work since the past months, because more and more companies go bankrupt.
And about the violence and law, yea…nothing happens. My ex was highly abusive. Police and court did nothing, even though I have the papers from hospital and from my previous psychologist. I just heard, “You are in a relationship with a man, so that’s normal, get used to it”, great. No wonder Finland ranks 2nd in domestic abuse in EU.
