Cyprus expects hosting Group C at EuroBasket 2025 to deliver a strong economic boost – estimated total impact between €13 and €17 million, while organizing costs were about €7.1 million.

The main benefit comes from tourism – higher spending on hotels, transport, hospitality, and other services. Live TV coverage is expected to reach 300 million viewers worldwide, giving Cyprus major exposure and a chance to present itself as an attractive destination for investment and leisure.

The “Spyros Kyprianou” Arena in Limassol underwent a full renovation before the tournament. Capacity increased from 6,255 to 8,000 seats, and the €14.5 million upgrade included new locker rooms, multimedia screens, improved lighting and ventilation, park & ride facilities, and full security systems.

“From the moment we applied in 2021, we asked Ernst & Young to prepare a detailed study showing that the benefits would far outweigh the costs,” Mark Klirides told Economy Today. “An updated study in November 2024 showed that costs will be €7.1 million, while direct and indirect benefits range from €12.2 million to €17.7 million,” said by Mark Klerides.
