Food delivery has become a common part of everyday life in Czechia, but what do people across the country most like to order? According to leading delivery platforms, trends vary sharply between the capital and other Czech regions.
American rules supreme
Delivery companies agree that American cuisine—namely, hamburgers and fast food—dominates nationwide, accounting for around one in four orders.
“McDonald’s, KFC, or Burger King play a significant role; their popularity is due to the large number of branches,” Adam Kolesa, head of the foodora delivery platform, told Czech media outlet iDnes.
Italian and Asian suit many taste buds
The second most commonly picked food depends on location. In Brno and Prague, Italian cuisine, led by pizza and pasta, takes about a 12 percent share. In other regions, Asian cuisine, including Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese dishes, ranks second.
“Czech cuisine is less popular in Brno than elsewhere; it didn’t even make it into the top five there, while in Prague it is fourth,” Kolesa said.
Prague’s diverse tastes
Bolt Food data show the capital prefers more varying cuisine types, such as burgers, sushi, vegan specialties, and pizza. Outside Prague, regional favorites include kebabs, roast chicken, and local Czech dishes.
Within Prague, Nusle and Dejvice lean toward pizza, most other districts prefer Asian food, and kebabs make the top five in Dejvice, Smíchov, and Strašnice, according to foodora data shared by Kolesa.
Consumer habits are driving change
Delivery isn’t just a convenience; it reflects how Czechs are reshaping mealtime. In Prague, orders spike not only at lunch and dinner but also on Sundays and holidays, while regional cities show steadier patterns concentrated around work breaks.
Bolt Food notes that multi-person orders are increasingly common, with office teams and households sharing pizzas, sushi platters, and combo meals. These are often group orders, where four pizzas are enough for six people, for example.
Platforms also report growing interest in diverse options beyond traditional restaurants. Customers are ordering from cafés, bakeries, grocery stores, pharmacies, and even flower shops.
Features such as scheduled delivery, corporate and group orders, meal bundles for offices, and healthier menu options are becoming standard, companies say.
