Such poor journalism by the journal. He’s not bringing forward a bill for cannabis to be decriminalised, he’s bringing forward a bill for it to be legalised. Completely different things.
There’s more No votes on that poll than I expected tbh.
Legalize, no driving and working under influence and all good imho
The leading photo of a scuzzy lighter. I’d be in favour of legalising it. Same type of rules as alcohol in terms of age limits and driving etc
The poll is talking about decriminalization which is very dodgy of the journal to be doing. Decriminalization will just give Gardaí discretion so they can keep their war on drugs while reducing the amount of people calling for change.
The writers of the journal are fucking cunts.
Decriminalization would be like Fine Gael saying they want to sanction Russia while protecting their Russian hotel investors.
Legalise it, regulate it, tax it and ring-fence the tax income for housing and education.
The legal cannabis industry in Ireland is estimated to be worth billions. Absolutely legalise it. It’ll lower crime, increase jobs, free up resources with the garda, and allows the likes of me to deal with my PTSD without worrying over being arrested, fined, or anything of the sort.
Also Irish weed is not always good quality. This is due to a lack of options. I’d love to be able to smoke a damn hybrid sativa dominant on my evening walk again like I had done while living abroad
Why not legalise it, why not have that option in this poll ?
We’re going to have to change the way we do roadside testing if it is legalised otherwise it’ll pretty much remain illegal for large swathes of the population. We simply cannot continue with a system where people are being prosecuted for being under the influence of a drug they’ve not consumed in days.
Yes
At a bare minimum decriminalising for use it would be logical. It makes absolutely no sense to put people in jail for smoking weed in 2022
Yes.
No ones ever attacked, beaten me, started on me or abuse me on weed. I cannot say the same for alcohol.
I’ve never made a fool of myself or lost my self awareness on weed. I cannot say the same for alcohol.
Weed, when used correctly, can be an excellent tool to fight sleep deprivation, anxiety, pain, etc. I cannot say the same for alcohol (except pain).
I have never seen anyone destroy their life for weed. I cannot say the same for alcohol.
All in all, if alcohol is legal and beloved in this country then I don’t believe anyone has a leg to stand on when dismissing the legalisation of weed. Frankly, the only issues surrounding weed all come from the fact that it is illegal.
Legalise, and tax. Use the tax to fund rehab for serious drug offenders. Use the money saved from drug crack downs on hiring more gardaí. It would open up new agricultural industries in the country too. Its a win all around.
Yeah legislate it
Legalize and regulate, although I’d like to see some advisories on THC/CBD ratios or levels.
Some of the high THC stuff these days makes me very very anxious which I never usually would be sober which can end up being a horrible experience. Can’t imagine it would be good for someone with underlying issues.
The drug driving thing needs to be addressed too.
I agree with legalising it, I’m not a fan of doing it myself, I don’t like how it makes me feel.
People should be allowed consume more or less what they want, no nanny state nonsense.
The war on drugs has failed everywhere and criminal gangs are profiting hugely from it.
But I do wish the advocates for it would stop pretending there are no downsides to the drug itself
Living in Ontario Canada where it’s legal & honestly, it’s unreal to see how big the industry has become. There’s 6 or 7 weed stores within a 10 min walk from my house, whereas there’s only two liquor stores/off licenses close by. Apparently Cannabis has added over 43 billion into the Canadian economy since it became legal, so there’s massive potential for Ireland.
Would have turned my nose up at people who smoked weed when I lived at home in Ireland, but I’ve learned that it’s a lot more tolerable to be around people who are stoned than it is to be around people who are drunk.
Should be legalised.
I don’t smoke but I make edibles and when you don’t know the thx content of the weed you’re using you can’t dose properly.
I’ve been left toothless on the couch too many times now after too strong a brownie has kicked the head off me.

Pro legalization, just need a few more years of research first. There needs to be a clear roadmap in place and the process would take time anyways (setting regulations for ethical supply, introducing a licensing system and rolling out better testing) so a commission to look into the new research coming out looking at things like paranoia, the dangers of different THC levels and the increased health (both mental and physical) with some strains to run alongside that process and introduce rules around the production style, chemical levels for each type of product and what strains can be used in commercial cannabis (all of which, or their equivalents, are already regulated for alcohol here)
If we decriminalise it should we expunge all past convictions relation to possession and consumption? (I think we should)
Yes, just so people can shut up about it.
I just wish certain people couldn’t access it. Then I wouldn’t care.
Take a look at what happened here in Canada, and you’ll see that the sky didn’t fall. It took a few years for the government to roll out licensing correctly, and eventually legal stores got better quality and lower pricing so they can halfway compete with a thriving gray market.
No, it is a plague on the mind. It’s availability harms its users mental health.
It should be full on legal.
Enough with the bullshit.
I would be all in favour for a grow your own policy, but not public sale. I’ve been to Amsterdam enough to know weed culture is shite
It’s not for me, but my daughter is into edibles. So I would prefer if it was legal. The benifts are that people would know what they are taking, the gangsters would mostly be pushed out of the market and there would be tax revenue. There are also further bonuses of getting away from the rather toxic drink culture in this country and the use of prescription drugs would go down.
It should obviously be decriminalised, maybe even legalised to the extent that booze and cigarettes are.
Having said that, don’t believe the nutcases who tell you it’s 100% harmless either.
