  1. > “I think ‘Home Alone’ really exists as, not at this timepiece, but it was this very special moment, and you can’t really recapture that,” Columbus said. “I think it’s a mistake to try to go back and recapture something we did 35 years ago. I think it should be left alone.”

  2. There’s a larger discussion regarding remakes that I think should be had.

Some of the great movies of all time are remakes: The Thing (1982), Sorcerer (1977), Scarface (1983), or hell even Wizard of Oz (1939) had a previous silent-era adaptation.

What the issue we have with so many of them however, is BAD, cash grab, soulless, pointless remakes. (Say what you will of ‘Nosferatu’ (2024), but that was a passion project meant to honor the 1922 original, and I believe it succeeded.)

  3. It’s been rebooted 4 times already. Most recently in 2021

  4. They won’t be left alone though, because Hollywood is full of les incompetents…

  5. If anything I would do a sequel with Macaulay Culkin as the parent and his child gets left home alone. Or him and his child. Something like that would be way cooler.

  6. I hope this time they remember to order enough cheese pizzas.

  7. Chris Columbus made some of my favorite movies of all time, but more recently he’s made a lot of junk. I know not everyone can be like Stephen Spielberg and make bangers for 50 years straight but I wish he’d make some really good, higher budget, quality movies again.

  8. Can we just go ONE year without a damn reboot? Make new stuff.

  9. I am all for the proposed remake of Home Alone starring present-day Macauly Culkin as Kevin without anyone acknowledging he’s in his forties in the entire film.

  10. As an old man, I need to ask. are young kids not able to relate to the original movie?

Just put it back in theaters around Christmas.

  11. The movie wouldn’t make any sense now and would be a completely different story. The kid would probably have a hand me down iPhone 15 max and just call them and say where he’s at. He also wouldn’t be able to get away just walking around the neighborhood and shopping and taking care of himself alone without neighbors calling CPS. There would be ring cameras and security cameras on the home so the wet bandits couldn’t just easily break in, not to mention cameras from other homes.

The charm and of that early 90s era is what made Home Alone the classic it is. It’s an era before smart phones, social media, cameras all over, etc and millennials could still kinda get away with running around on their own without adults calling CPS and freaking out.

  12. If they put a big ad campaign behind it and maybe a fast food promo or something, I bet they could do another big theater run with Home Alone this Christmas and it would murder. A remake would just be another trash movie buried on some streaming platform that nobody cares about.

  13. The commercial-parody Mac did a few years ago is the only reboot I need.

  14. I disagree. I think the an origin story of the wet bandits would be amazing.

Kevin is now a struggling journalist looking for his passion project when he witnesses a robbery and is reminded of his past. So he decides to interview the wet bandits. Movie then goes to flashbacks of how they met and started working together. Would be amazing

  15. Agreed the Mouse house will trash the Home Alone brand.

  16. I stopped keeping up after 4. Home Alone 3 was actually a solid movie, as unnecessary as it was. Home Alone 4 I liked as a kid, but after rewatching recently it’s so much worse than I remember lol. Like embarrassingly bad.

  17. A modern redo: kid gets left home alone. Kid goes on his tablet. Doesn’t have a care in the world. Parents schedule new flight home while in the air. They land and go home. Movie is 15 minutes long. Yay.

  18. As far as I am concerned, the Home Alone series stops at 2, the ones that don’t have Culkin aren’t Home Alone!

  19. No shit. Can we rally against shitty remakes and excessive sequels?? Come up with original ideas.

  20. I’d still go see that movie I heard about Stoned Alone. No clue what happened to it though

  21. Yeah. Well for 1 you can’t put the orange idiot in there again.

  22. They need to just cast 44 year old Macaulay Culkin and as much of the original cast as they can get and then have NOBODY mention the fact that all of the actors are old as shit now.

  23. They’d probably make more money off the IP if they just re released the first two in theaters every Christmas until the end of time.

  24. You’d have to set it before smartphones. Most old movies that require the inability to contact someone would only by 5 minutes if set in modern times

  25. Everyone has a smart phone in the new version. Didn’t work.

  26. Pretty sure the Grimm’s would be horrified at what Disney has done to all of their work.

  27. Kevin should be the dad this time, divorced, his kids are off to college, and he’s just sitting at home alone.

  28. As much as I agree with everything.

Would be cool to see what kinds of horrors modern kids with hobby electronics and 3d printers could come up with.

Kid could step out into the hallway with a full on iron man suit with a few actual weapons built in.

  29. They should have McCauley as an adult break into Marv’s house for murder revenge and just reverse it all

  30. I think Home Alone 2 is funnier than 1 but 1 is the better movie.
