“Soften opposition” is a strange way of putting it. Germany never was against an oil ban per se, it just had to happen at a reasonable point of time to do more damage to Putin than to the EU. Now that the German government, after months of working with the industry extremely hard on reducing oil-dependency, has managed to get nearly independent of Russian oil, an oil ban is a realistic option. Of course.
Good. When we keep Russia’s economy alive, we fund death and destruction.
30 years from now, I am sure we will read the juicy details of these NATO meetings.
I think Biden is threatening the dissolution of NATO if Germany and Hungary don’t toe the line.
Technically EU centimeters forward.
It’s amazing how during the 2008 meltdown Germany was preaching to the other European countries that had major economic issues to buckle up and make hard decisions. Well, time for them to make some major hard decisions regarding russian gas now.
Dark Winter ahead. Don’t look to the US as the Biden admin will be leaving everyone high and dry as their only focus is covering themselves.
Mark my words, as soon as Russia is done with Ukraine and some time passes, Germans going to jump on that cheap russian gas and give the finger to the western companies that started this entire charade. They would have to be stupid to buy into the inflated gas prices being sold by western corporations to the Europeans now that they are benefiting off this war.
