This show did seem inappropriate, even if they were well meaning.
Do five year olds need to go to a show about sex?
Apparently the performers are naked for parts of it.
And one of the topics is masturbation. Another sexual pleasure.
Just… not really appropriate is it.
Edit: why on earth has this post got a participation notice and restricted comments…?!
Good. Literally noncery in plain sight.
Thought we’d realised after Savile that sometimes blatant noncey behaviour, is just blatant noncery.
Check the hard drives of everyone involved in this bullshit.
Any actor willingly exposing himself to strangers children as young as five, is mega suss.
On their website they were also encouraging children to “find examples of animals that masturbate” and then to “draw what you’ve found”.
Great news that it’s been cancelled and nonsense they called people against this “extremist”. Getting your genitals out to show 5 year olds isn’t “freedom of expression” as they’ve claimed. Theatres should be referring the alleged illegal threats to the police and then think about putting on something actually age appropriate for 5 year olds.
Someone saw ‘Legz Akimbo – Put yourself in a child’ from League of Gentlemen and decided to do it in real life. Absolutely crazy stuff.
Good – the fact it got as far as it did is concerning
It is totally inappropriate and an example of how out of touch administrators have become. Also what on Earth is the ‘naked attraction’ doing on television?
Not some people tweeting support and using the pride flag. Like please stop fucking associating the lgbt community with endless fucking noncense. It’s hard enough.
Who ever thought that a show, containing, ‘full frontal nudity,’ was appropriate for children, needs their head looking at!
I would have to compare their mental state, ti that of a particularly stupid turnip.
Creepy as fuck. Real ‘The League of Gentlemen’ vibe from this whole thing.
I have no problem with the nudity, there was a show on Dutch tv aimed at 11 and 12 year olds where actors got naked and children were allowed to ask questions (about the body, not sex).
But the rest of the content, jeez. Asking a bunch of children to google masturbating animals is not going to end up well is it.
Everyone involved in that show is a fucking disgrace
This really isn’t a debate, and nor should it be – the age of consent is a hard line for a very good reason, well documented and studied by expert psychologists. It isn’t for fucking around with and blurring the lines.
People can argue (including one highly suspect user active in this thread) that “ah yes, but the naked body isn’t necessarily sexual, and masturbation shouldn’t be a taboo topic, it’s perfectly natural!” but that is literally no different to people being caught with photos of naked kids and saying it’s “art” or “for research purposes”. Whether they’re being honest with their intents or not, whether they gain sexual gratification from it or not, the line is there for a reason and cannot be crossed.
Now with my lawyer’s hat on, I’d strongly suggest that the actors who are exposing themselves to kids aren’t getting a sexual kick from it. However that doesn’t mean that it is appropriate any more than a teacher or an uncle being naked and telling young children how to masturbate, or someone having a large number of photos of naked kids on their hard drive.
While again, with my lawyer’s/cast-iron-top-flying-barrister-QC-don’t-sue-me-for-libel hat on, I don’t think this is a sneaky tactic to get pedophilla accepted by the people organising it, and I largely think that idea/fear is moral panic from people with their own prejudices, stuff like this *does*, intentionally or not, start to blur those lines in ways that pedophiles could take advantage of.
Why did they think sex and kids was a good idea there’s people on lists who tired that
Full benefit of the doubt, I don’t think this about noncery? Like sure it’s important to teach young people about sex and relationships and gender identity and stuff, but 5 seems super young, and I mean, obviously there was gonna be a huge backlash.
With a heart heavy with pragmatism, I know that one of the biggest reasons that child abusers manage to abuse children is because the children involved literally aren’t aware that the things being done to them are sexual abuse that they can and should feel able to talk about to get help. But I really don’t know a way to teach kids these things without it being deeply uncomfortable.
I think they had the right idea, sexual eduction in the UK DOES need to be readdressed but the method maybe needed to be a bit calmer.
Is it not possible to protest your disapproval of something without resorting to violent threats and, probably, death threats? C’mon now, people, act like adults
Also the premise for this show alone probably should have made its creators realise that it was likely gonna be met with this sort of reaction.
It’s fine to teach children about the body and how it works, and that we shouldn’t be afraid of bodily changes as we grow. We should absolutely teach them not to touch someone else’s privates without permission, and teach them how to speak up if someone touches them without their permission.
These types of conversations about sex and masturbation should be left to people who are qualified, and when the individuals being taught are at an appropriate age when sexual activity may begin. There should also be talks about safe sex with someone of the same or opposite gender, asexuality, transgenderism, etc.
No five year old needs to know what the bloody clitoris is. Let them be kids and teach them the basics of the body: sexual maturity is not on their minds.
What a creepy idea for a show.
Not even close to being age appropriate.
Seeing naked people isn’t the problem, name me one toddler that doesn’t burst into the bathroom when your in the shower or on the toilet…
But talking about sex to children…
I bet their hard drives and search history would interest the police.
Good. Stop trying to groom children you absolute degenerates.
Does every sex Ed show need a raunchy name? No wonder people flip a tit.
It’s stright up grooming, so yeah expect people to rightfully be pissed.
who the fuck thinks stuff like this is ok?!
why the fuck would you want random adults appearing naked infront of your kids??
Honestly I’m not surprised. The nonce vibes were strong with this one, despite their protestations and their frequent mentions of the NSPCC on their site. Just because something mentions the NSPCC, doesn’t mean they’re endorsed by them as some had tried (at least to me) to claim as proof they weren’t creepy weirdos.
How anyone could have innocently thought this was in any shape or form a good idea is beyond me and the actors willing to get naked in front of stranger children are super sus.
Redditors defending naked adults talking to kids about masturbating.
Just another day on reddit.
Having read the songs/monologues/whatever, I can see what they were trying to do. I think they were well meaning, but have gone about it in entirely the wrong way. It’s an awful medium for what I understand is intended to generally be a message of liberation.
But holy shit, some of the stuff in there just isn’t going to be understood, or is appropriate, for younger kids. The stuff about vaginismus, anxiety about still being a virgin, that’s excellent sex ed content – for 15 and 16 year olds. I suspect most 5 – 8 year olds don’t even really have a concept of what a virgin is, they don’t really need to be exposed to the concept of anxiety about not being one.
I get what they were going for, but the way they have presented it has allowed the press to paint them as weirdo child molesters, and honestly based on some of the content I’ve read their fears aren’t totally unsubstantiated. Literally all they have managed to achieve here is reinforce societies opinions of the “queer” community (because of course they had to be queer, well fucking done gang.)
People asked “how did Jimmy Savile get away with doing what he did?!” And it is like everyone forgot that nonces and groomers are everywhere. Hiding in plain sight is a strategy that has worked in the past.
If anyone in these comments think this show was a good idea, you need your head tested.
Spend 5 minutes reading the news article very slowly and see why people are against it.
We should be forward thinking and accepting of all sexualities, etc. But aiming a show like this at kids is just vile.
Everything about this just comes off as as a brasseye bit.
