>Conservative and Brexit supporters want the far-right candidate Marine Le Pen to become president of France in this weekend’s election, a poll shows.
>
>The National Rally (RN) – formerly National Front – leader is backed by 37 per cent of Tory voters at the last election, while just 24 per cent support the centrist Emmanuel Macron.
>
>The margin is even greater among Leave voters at the 2016 Brexit referendum, who prefer Ms Le Pen over the current president by 35 per cent to 19 per cent.
[…]
>The strong correlation between support for Ms Le Pen and for the Conservatives is seen as evidence of how Boris Johnson has tapped similar “populist’ sentiment.
>
>Across the UK population as a whole, Mr Macron is by far the preferred candidate, the Pollsters YouGov found, by 37 per cent to the RN leader’s 19 per cent.
>
>However, no less than 44 per cent of the public replied “don’t know”, suggesting widespread ignorance about politics across the Channel.
>
>Remain and Labour voters overwhelmingly back the sitting president, by 62 per cent to 7 per cent and 53 per cent to 8 per cent, respectively.
Far right voters favour far right candidate.
In other news, Pope still a bear and catholics shit in the woods.
If they get their way it will be the start of the end. I don’t understand how a country that was invaded by facists and then killed many French people want their country to regress 80 years to do it all again, madness.
Add Putin to the list and make this really interesting…
Is she actually ‘far right’ or is she far right in the same sense that reddit dickheads think tories are far right?
Tories are far right they’re fucking building concentration camp in Rwanda right at this moment.
What’s the TL;DR on this woman? We talking banning burqas or concentration camps? I agree with neither but I just want to know what kind of a danger she is.
People who hate people are drawn to other people who hate people.
Not a surprise at all, but I think rather than the heated debate above which seems to break it down as “sadists VS dumb”, I think that’s a bit reductive/harsh
FPTP is definitely a massive factor (as in its a “pick one” scenario and because they haven’t really thought about the issue they do tend to pick the actual fascist that they’d “have a pint with” over the sensible guy who wants to make people’s lives better)
But I think it’s more loads and loads of people being victim to the Murdoch Press’ deliberate sliding of the Overton window to the right.
It’s not that everyone is a fascist now – it’s that they’re consuming fascist ideology daily. When the headlines of supposedly legitimate news media organizations are literally “us and them” playground bullshit day in, day out they start to internalize it and think that’s how the world is.
There’s a definite irony in the generation so quick to reference a war they didn’t live through to imply their own strength and your weakness drifting into the literal thing that caused that war through too much appeal to their lizard brains by shouty white men themselves without a shred of self awareness… it’s like an irony spiral.
But I also think it isn’t that people are dumb or sadistic – I think they aren’t really paying attention.
It’s worth considering that “modern life” isn’t actually “designed to make you busy/suffer/anything” – *it isn’t designed at all*. Most people are literally just getting along through life and don’t really think anything through beyond the next thing they need to get on with.
Whilst it’s *also* worth bearing in mind that not paying attention to politics is itself a privilege (and a BIG one) – that’s considered the status quo in this country, and twasever thus.
Macron is despised in France. Le Pen has a real shot at winning and becoming the next French President. And when that happens, Europe is gonna fall to Fascism. If you thought Brexit was bad for the EU, just wait until we see Fruckoff. It’ll leave Germany as the only major powerhouse left.
Front National are basically Fascists, to the point where they have their own 1,500-strong militarized security force (DPS) that are essentially their brownshirts. The moment they get into power is gonna be when France turns into a one-party state.
Le Pen is Tommy Robinson if he had popular support and backing from the local authorities.
How many can name any of her actual policies? I suspect many just like the fact that she hates immigrants and attempted to get France to leave the EU too. The desire of the far right to do any in-depth research is always lacking.
In Paris visiting right now. The posters around the city make this election look more like a fucking title boxing match at Caesar’s Palace than an election.
You mens to tell me Brexiters and Tory voters support a French candidate that supports Russia…. Colour me surprised.
That’s a glowing endorsement if ever I’ve heard one!
Her views on immigration (for example) are almost the same as the current admin we have here. She’s just less sly about it.
If she gets in, I feel for the youth (and possibly adults) of France. Hell, I feel for the youth of France now, I remember how much ostracization and dehumanising of Asian kids there was going to school in the BNP era. And the BNP was still a fringe party. And when kids feel surrounded by hate, it just maintains the cycle of hatred and mistrust for another generation.
These flag waving “patriots” proudly wear their poppies yet happily vote for policies that’d make Hitler jizz in his pants.
It’s hardly surprising to was this. The more committed anti -immigrant types of Brexiteers are bound to support Le Pen. The Brexiteer economists / anti- EU economic construct types will also agree with Le Pens hatred of the EU. And those who voted for Brexit and are a little uneasy with their decision will support anyone who makes that uneasy feeling go away a little. Having a potential leader to bring about Frexit and weaken the EU further seems too good to be true – suddenly France is aligned with the U.K. and not the EU.
Of course they do. The whole machine is effective and they are easily led.
Are brexiters just jealous of EU and want it destroyed so they don’t look like morons themselves? Or is it LePen’s support of Putin they have a hard on for? Or are they just xenophobes? Hard to tell with this lot.
Fascists supporting the growth of fascism. Hardly a surprise.
And? I support sovereignty, strong borders, law and order and the defence of European culture against barbarism, and I’m not going to apologise for any of that just because it’s painted as a “far-right” (whatever that means) view. Quite frankly that phrase has been thrown around so much by the Left that I no longer care if people think that I’m far-right, to be honest.

Dear Brexiters – this is why people call you fascists…
