Boris Johnson stands by attack on Church of England over immigration

  1. Recap:

    >He attacked the BBC and the Church of England. He seemed particularly angry about their response to the government’s plan to effectively deport some asylum seekers to Rwanda and, [as the Daily Mirror reports](https://archive.ph/lIR6n), he said it was a “good policy” despite some “criticism on the BBC and from senior members of the clergy”.

    >The Mirror quotes a source saying Johnson also implied the archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, was soft on Russia. Johnson reportedly said clergymen had “coincidentally had been less vociferous in their condemnation on Easter Sunday of Putin than they were of our policy on illegal immigrants”, the paper reports. In [its report of the same comments](https://archive.ph/YOPTz), the Telegraph says the soft on Russia accusation was levelled at the BBC too.

  2. He’s really making a point that he can piss off virtually anyone and everyone, yet still get away with it. Sod resigning, sack him and lock him up for contempt.

Voters really do need to wake up and go against Johnson and his clique. They’re dangerous and really don’t care about anyone but themselves and their investors. It’s just a pity breaking the rule of law, or conflicting with it, isn’t a crime.

  3. “When the debate is over and no common ground can be held slander is always the tool of the losers” Our prime minister folks 👍

  4. BJ would watch a video of himself kicking a puppy to death without an ounce of moral quarrel, and his circus followers would do the same. This is the country we live in, where the 35% voting Tory are happy with the public purse and national institutions being degraded and some vein dillusion that they’re not the plebs being shat on.

  5. We are reaching the point where straw manning and childish whataboutism as seen on reddit so often is actually a sound preparation for politics.

  6. What the fuck has the Church of England got to do with politics anyway? Maybe they should pray to Jesus for Boris to fall down the stairs lol. Bunch of nonces in robes

  7. The best thing about it is that he takes so little care of himself that his decline is obvious. He’s trying to brave it out but, as Shakira said: “My flaccid jowls and ever-lazier attempts to glue albino hair to my head before I go out don’t lie” – at the despatch box his head looks like a wart he’s trying to remove with his tie; a red, angry, unwanted little thing atop a rumpled suit.

Any given politician, it’s interesting to see which photos the left and right wing papers choose – but not even the Express can find a flattering one anymore, they just have to opt for ‘only looks like an escaped nonce in this one’. Every day he looks more and more like ‘are you ok, Prime Minister?’ should be the only question anyone asks him of a Wednesday.

  8. He can’t do othewise though, as it would suggest him to be decent. Since being a complete waste of human flesh is the only strategy left for him, he can’t possibly back down.

  9. Oops! Most of his elderly wealthy voters are also serious god botherers. We are now way past the point of peak Johnson.
During the worst of trump I thought it would never end, but nothing goes on forever. There will be a future without Johnson. Not too long now.

  10. The Church of England that converts religious zealots to Christianity in attempts to subvert asylum rules (only for one to try and blow a hospital up), that Church? Thank fuck they’re an irrelevance since the 90s.

  11. Here’s a headline to let the world know how well we’re doing. A world-beating headline roll-out.

  12. Johnson desperately tried to pick a fight over immigration having failed at taxes, jobs, housing, the economy, covid, the nhs, crime, equality, education, pollution, foreign policy, energy policy and not being a criminal liar.

  13. All of a sudden shitlibs care what ancient and powerful institutions of organised religion have to say

  14. He won’t even deny that he is wrong about what he said from a factual standpoint. The Church of England has released a statement on the war in Ukraine, however I cannot see why they would need to release more. How many more ways can you condemn Putin? How many more ways do they need to condemn him? Putin is not paying attention to the C of E, however C of E members will be paying attention to Johnson and his latest policy. The archbishop is right to point out how inhumane it is and that a government that claims to want to help asylum seekers from one conflict is happy to punish asylum seekers from others.

  15. The longer he draws it on, the more people he pisses off the more lines he draws. His moron supporters get ammunition like “the church should stay out of politics” or some such. The original problem doesn’t even get discussed because it’s pivoted to what someone who is a public figure, who’s literal job is about moralising from a platform, said about the governments immoral plans.

Boris needs removing before he does any more damage.

  16. The monarchy really needs to wake up and do the only duty the public wants and that is to sack the pm. I’m tired of this “the monarchy doesn’t get involved with politics” right then they need to step down and not exist if they don’t provide anyhting for this country.
