Liam Neeson stars as bumbling cop Frank Drebin Jr. in The Naked Gun, a sequel-reboot of the classic spoof comedy directed by Akiva Schaffer. The 2025 film revives the franchise with a mix of zany gags, offbeat parody, and deadpan delivery, and a new cast featuring Pamela Anderson, Danny Huston, and CCH Pounder.
The Prague Reporter says: “Bolstered by a perfectly-cast Liam Neeson—who may now have a third career as unlikely comedy star after unlikely action star—this one is packed with enough genuine laughs to succeed as a feature film comedy in 2025… even if it never really lives up to the original movies.”
Dakota Johnson stars as professional matchmaker Lucy in Materialists, a romance about her choice between a wealthy suitor played by Pedro Pascal and her former boyfriend, a struggling artist played by Chris Evans. Star Johnson personally introduced the movie in Karlovy Vary earlier this summer, and now it heads into wide release in local cinemas.
“It may not reach the quiet brilliance of director Celine Song’s previous film Past Lives,” writes The Prague Reporter, “but Materialists is proof that even a glossy Hollywood romance can have some genuine heart.”

Alien: Earth is a sci-fi horror series created by Noah Hawley (Fargo) set two years before the events of the 1979 film Alien. It follows a young woman and a group of tactical soldiers who confront Earth’s greatest threat after the space vessel Maginot crash-lands, exploring humanity’s future through cyborgs, AI synths, and human-consciousness hybrids.
The series features an ensemble cast including Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Timothy Olyphant and others. The first two episodes are now streaming on Disney+ in the Czech Republic, with new episodes dropping weekly.
The six-episode series Butterfly, a high-stakes spy thriller with a personal twist, is now streaming on Prime Video. The series follows Daniel Dae Kim as a former U.S. intelligence operative living in hiding in South Korea, whose past decisions come back to haunt him when he is pursued by his daughter (Reina Hardesty) and a shadowy spy organization.
Written by Arash Amel (The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare) and based on his graphic novel, the series blends fast-paced espionage with tense family drama.
🇨🇿 Czech Films in Focus
A quartet of bored Moravian schoolteachers try an alcohol-fueled experiment in Another Round (Pod parou), a Czech remake of Thomas Vinterberg’s Oscar-winning 2020 drama currently playing in Prague cinemas (with English subtitles at Kino Lucerna, Kino Atlas, and elsewhere).
“While the Czech version of Another Round benefits from strong performances and a solid narrative framework, it never steps out of the earlier film’s shadow,” writes The Prague Reporter.
