1. That is such a ridiculous demand. Putin knows it, Europe knows it, and certainly does Ukraine. These parties also know that Russia’s word is worth nothing. No signature will ever be honored. The only way to influence the Federation’s behavior is through force.

   Give Putin a piece of what he wants (reformation of the USSR territorial empire) and he will be back. Give him the Donbas, the fortress belt, and its extensive fortifications, and he will be back for more. You can’t appease away the bloodthirsty imperial.

   It is not fair to expect Russia to ever abstain from raping and killing for too long.

After meeting Mr. Putin and debriefing European leaders, Mr. Trump now believes a peace treaty can be done rapidly, as long as Ukraine agrees to give up the entirety of the Donbass region, putting the onus on President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine to agree, two European officials said on Saturday. The officials requested anonymity to discuss private talks.

   According to them, Putin proposed a ceasefire in the rest of Ukraine along the current front lines in exchange for all of Donbass, and offered a written statement pledging not to attack Ukraine or any European country.

   Trump said that it is now up to Ukraine to reach a ceasefire agreement. “I think we’re pretty close to the end. And look, Ukraine has to agree to it. Gotta make a deal”.

3. People in the collective West still haven’t come to terms with the reality that the Ukraine is going to have to make great sacrifices in order for some sort of a Ukrainian state to remain.

4. The demand is terrible but the situation on the ground in Ukraine possibly even worse; frontline battalions operating at 30% to 60% capacity, 80% of the total manpower forced conscripts who don’t wanna be there, shitty decision after shitty decision from the UAF leaving loads dead

5. Ok leaving pride and precedent aside. Couldn’t Ukraine agree to this but also on the conditions on heavily reinforcing and reconstructing, with the guaranteed help of the allies, the new state of Ukraine to avoid escalation and from Russia not keeping their word in the future?

   Or is the concern here that Putin will not wait even a month after agreeing to a ceasefire to mount up another advance?

   Couldn’t the treaty add even more damning clauses of Russia breaches it then?

   I think since Zelensky is not even willing to entertain pass the first point then we are stuck in a stalemate.

   Something about losing the battle but winning the war.

6. The American exit strategy from beginning and all were blinded by hope.
   US made a nice turn from leader of the free world to an arms seller blackmailing Europe..
   It´s all a big show sadly.

   Ukraine would be good advised not to trust American security guarantees.

   What a loser negotiator Trump is when he can´t bully anyone…

7. Zelensky won’t give up the Donbas without guarantees. There’s nothing to stop Russia from continuing the war after being gifted the Donbas. Like when they came back after Crimea

8. The Donbas *in exchange for security guarantees* would be a fair trade that Putin won’t accept.

   There won’t be a peace deal without a defense agreement – even if it falls short of NATO membership, a mutual defense agreement with the EU to provide security guarantees that any further incursion would trigger war with all of Europe.

9. The Donbass in exchange for security treaties from the West seems like the only way out atp. It’s very depressing, but i’m extremely doubtful that Ukraine has the capacity to retake the Donbass anyway.

   The big challenge is getting the security guarantee into the peace deal.
