  1. Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy, launched in late 2022, has struggled to establish a distinct regional identity and is currently perceived as a secondary player closely aligned with U.S. geopolitical priorities. A report commissioned by Global Affairs Canada and conducted by Ipsos, which surveyed experts in five countries, revealed that Canada lacks a strong brand recognition and is often seen as indistinguishable from the United States. Despite enjoying a predominantly positive image as a democratic country with commodity exports, the strategy faces challenges including limited on-the-ground visibility, minimal economic and military footprint, and a lack of strategic communication. However, the research also uncovered potential opportunities for Canada to evolve its positioning, with regional experts suggesting the country could play a valuable role as a bridge-builder among competing powers and demonstrate greater strategic independence.

  2. It is the same country, informally. Trump is trying to make it the same country formally thus creating the opportunity for Canada and Canadians to create a strong and separated identity.

  3. People overseas can’t tell the difference between a Canadian and an American, in the same way most Americans can’t tell the difference between a Chinese and a Japanese.

That’s not a reason to let China take over Japan the way Republicans want to take over Canada.

  4. the american right to bear arms and the canadian right to bear pancakes are, arguably, two sides of the same post-colonial assertion of individual liberty, just filtered through opposing weather systems.
