August the 17th, 2025 – A Croat from Switzerland is set to embark on quite a journey along 800 kilometres of the dazzling Croatian coast.

As Morski writes, Marko Piliškić, a 27-year-old Croat from Lucerne in Switzerland, is currently preparing to run 800 kilometres along the Croatian coast over a period of just fifteen days.

“I started running recreationally back in January, and then it became a regular thing,” Piliškić told the portal Hrvati.ch. He is calling his latest running adventure “Project Croatia”, and it is set to begin on August the 22nd.

At the same time, he followed an influencer from Switzerland who participated in a 257-kilometre marathon in Morocco.

“I wondered if I could do something like that,” said Piliškić, a sales manager at a Swiss construction company. He recently ran a 100-kilometre route near Bern, which took him about 10 hours in total, HRT reports.

“I love Croatia and I love running,” he said while explaining exactly why he wants to put his running shoes to the test along the Croatian coast, where the already horrendously scorching temperatures are set to reach record levels this week.

Piliškić noted that running gives him a sense of freedom, and he didn’t want to spend the summer just sitting around and lounging on the beach.

“You’re alone on the trail, and you can think. You’re not on your phone, you’re not stressed,” said the Croat from Switzerland preparing to take in all the glory of the Croatian coastline, from Istria all the way down to the extreme south of Dalmatia in Konavle.

When he started running, it was difficult for him to reach 5 kilometres, but once he managed to run 40 kilometres, everything became far easier. He will have to run more than 50 kilometres a day if he wants to complete the desired route along the Croatian coastline, from north to south, in fifteen days. The move presents an extreme physical and mental challenge.

His nineteen-year-old brother David will also accompany him on the journey in a camping vehicle in which he will eat, sleep, cook and rest. The keen runner plans to share photos, videos and short stories from his route, hoping to motivate and encourage others to embark on their own adventures.

“My first goal was to do it for myself, but now everyone is urging me to post videos, to share experiences, so that people can see the beauty of Croatia,” he said.

Running through Croatia will be a kind of preparation for his participation in next year’s seriously demanding Marathon de Sables in Morocco.
