Sex Matters are threatening The National Library of Scotland with legal action for not putting “The Women Who Wouldn’t Wheesht” on display (but still having it on the shelves)

  1. These are the same moonhowlers who are constantly moaning about “compelled speech” BTW

    Sex Matters are an anti-trans hate group who have spent years lobbying politicians like Wes Streeting and Baroness Faulkner to strip away the rights of trans people and they are more than likely financially backed by holocaust denier and professional bigot JK Rowling.

    Now their sole purpose seems to be using vexatious lawfare (having had the law changed to align with their political goals) to bully and intimidate organisations while simultaneously manufacturing consent to dox, endanger and harass any trans person or even organisations attempting to be supportive of trans people.

    What an absolute joke of a country.

  2. For me it’s not just the fact that they do stuff like this, but it’s that people donate to them so that they can do this. Like, there are charities that do… actual things. Community work, outreach, support groups, research. SM just write angry letters about things that, even if you care strongly about trans (or anti-trans) issues, don’t actually matter. That and funding mostly doomed legal cases.

    I’ve read the letter and I still don’t really see what they believe their argument to be, legally speaking. It seems to just be “You’re not displaying this book our members contributed to so you’re evil!”.

    And considering the other shite Sex Matters have gotten up to I wouldn’t want those curtain-twitching cunts anywhere near my establishment either.

  9. How embarrassing to demand to be part of an exhibit, especially when it has nothing to do with your cause. I suspect they organised a flood of recommendations from their members and are upset that the exhibit was actually curated to be coherent and relevant.

  20. For all the people still supporting this raging bin fire of a ‘charity’ I hope that this case really highlights how they’re just a dark money funded vexatious lawfare front focused on stirring up anti-trans sentiment wherever they can.

    Their opening argument here is complete nonsense. They cite that not including the book in an exhibition because _staff complained_ means that they could be indirectly discriminating against a completely hypothetical staff member with ‘gender critical’ (transphobic) views.

    The book was only nominated by four people, so clearly wasn’t that popular anyway (and I would bet money those four people either work for, or have strong links to Sex Matters).

    I also want to point out that they say the staff threatened the library, when the staff said it could open the library up to reputational risks if it was included in the exhibition.

    To then follow this up with threats of thousands of claims under the EA, going as far as to cite the specific figures they threaten the library will have to pay out in each case and then demanding the library meets with the book editors (?), apologises to the authors and further still apologises to everybody who potentially has transphobic views.

    ‘Sex Matters’ needs to be struck off the charity register yesterday and all of their funding fully and comprehensively investigated.

  22. I remember in the early 2010s, there was this whole discourse about how the new wave of feminism missed the point and hurt feminism. That instead they were just spiteful and ruining things. I nearly bought into it before I realised that was just the narrative being pushed on me.

    So anyway, this wave of trans exclusionary “feminists” bullshit reminds me of that. They’re everything the assholes that resulted in things like GamerGate believed feminists to be. Just spiteful, wicked people who wield some fake form of feminism as a weapon to bring down others. They’re not going to just lose trans people’s rights, which frankly, should be bad enough as it is, but will continue to harm everyone else while continuing their completely senseless vendetta.

    Also wasn’t Sex Matters the group where one of their senior people was caught reading child porn on a public train but somehow they were classed as the victim on that incident?

  27. Whether sex matters could actually win a lawsuit over this is irrelevant. All they need to do is to force a less well-funded organisation, in this case the NLS to defend one. Vexatious litigation works not because it has a chance of success, but because those with less deep pockets then have to defend themselves.

    So again, whe question arises, who funds, who is actually behind sex matters, other than Rowling? Given their influence, this is now having an unwholesome effect on democracy itself in this country.

  32. The Library should display that book, alongside Harry Potter, with a collection of books on lying, jobbies and vomit. They could have their own display outside the gender neutral toilets. Win for all.

  33. No-one who has ever censored or banned books for ideological reasons has ever been the good guy. For that alone, I’d display it.
