A new National Geographic series, set to stream on Disney+, is currently being filmed in Malta, the government said.

The production blends documented facts about the natural tragedy of Pompeii with dramatic storytelling, narrated by renowned actor Tom Hiddleston.

Minister for Culture, Lands and Local Government Owen Bonnici, together with Film Commissioner Johann Grech, visited the set at Fort Ricasoli where they met members of the production team and cast.

Minister Bonnici said, “The fact that a production of this level is being made in our country shows how Malta has become a serious and established destination in the film sector. We are proud that, thanks to the extensive work being carried out, we are attracting international productions while creating quality job opportunities for many Maltese people.”

He added, “As a Government, we are committed to continue strengthening these creative investments which bring with them jobs and international recognition for our country.”

Film Commissioner Johann Grech also remarked, “We are proud of the talent of our workers and the world-class skills they offer to productions filmed in Malta. Productions like ‘Surviving Pompeii’ not only showcase our locations but also create high-quality jobs for the Maltese crew.”

Around 65 percent of the entire production is being shot in Malta, including locations such as Villa Bologna, Fort Ricasoli, and Majjistral Park, with approximately 167 Maltese workers involved across various sectors.

This British production consists of three episodes, each around 60 minutes long, and has benefited from the Cash Rebate program.
