More proto fascist nonsense from the telegraph.
Judges don’t make laws or write legislation. They just apply what the government enacts.
The far right like to bang on about the rule of law.
Until it occasionally doesn’t suit them. Then there’s a conspiracy afoot.
You mean the people who judge the rule of law? Yeah who needs that
Rage bait nonsense again from that rag.
Need Joe Public angry and scared. Else they will realise how badly they are getting shafted by the top 1%.
“We demand law and order!”
“OK, here’s some law and order.”
“No! Not THAT law and order!”
Are the traitorgraph going to try and convince people we don’t want an independent judiciary now.
The more worrying things is that the general population are so thick they would happily vote their rights and democracy away. They really are that dense.
Or, “How Politicians gave up making decisions”.
Ironically the media controls Britain lol
To quote Withnail: “What absolute twaddle”
The bait from both sides upsets me. Guardian is full of virtue signalling and perfect world whines although that is far less of an issue than the rubbish the Telegraph has opinions on as it’s outright racist or dangerous some of the time.
Hard to find balanced opinions these days…
All news media should only be owned by tax residents. Remove all tax avoiders and overseas owners
Crazy how, if you train a bunch of people to be the arbiters of interpreting law in a country, and then specifically pay them to do that, that’s what they end up doing
I mean, what is the complaint here? That judges are deciding what is or isn’t legal, and holding people to account? Isn’t that literally what they’re supposed to be doing?
There’s a serious lack of talent in the Commons, if better laws are written then these interpretations aren’t valid.
Judges in London love letting criminals go scot free
Oh yet another attack the judges post. Bots out in force today.
Oh! So in preparation for a possible Reform government, the Torygraph is trying to turn people against the justice system so that it can be attacked as being “woke”!
I saw that coming.
isnt that a good thing? seeing as they are ‘juedges’?
Parliamentary sovereignty means laws can be changed if there is demonstrable public support via political power to do so. There is either a lack of vision or a lack of interest in being held responsible for their own actions that is driving MPs when they point at judges – who are applying the laws *they have the power to change*
So how do we stop them?
Can governments and Parliament override judges if so if they go against national interests this should happen or they should be removed.
Yet ANOTHER crisis that’s driving the far right that has its origins with Tony Blair and the Labour party of the 1990s….
How many politicians and PMs are lawyers originally? It’s hardly a surprise that this has happened.
Imo we need to modify and clarify responsibilities through a constitution.
The judiciary needs to be trusted. Therefore, imo it should be democratic and judges should be held to account.
Poor performance and outrageous sentences should result in sacking judges.
Activist judges should be fired.
But let’s not forget….the article talks about shockingly written legislation…we have such low quality people as our mps these days that no wonder the laws written are full of loop holes.
The pay equality stories in this are just outrageous.
Equal value? You could.say that the people that work in.gregg shops should get the highest pay in the business as they actually work with customers….
We need to wipe the whole thing clean.
The country is broken beyond repair and Tony Blair is a huge part of the reason why.
Everything wrong with this country has it’s origins in Tony Blair’s government. The supreme court should be dismantled and all judicial power returned to Parliament.
JOIN REFORM, VOTE REFORM!
This is basically accurate, I do feel the judiciary has overreaching influence in a lot of areas. It has an undefined limit to its power, especially since Jackson.
Judges are just following the laws and sentencing guidelines set by Parliament. Sometimes they’re frustrating (killer drivers, etc) but it’s in the power of parliament to fix this.
Right wingers have discovered the separation of powers and really don’t like it.
If only there were some historical precedent for authoritarians not liking the separation of powers, eroding or dismantling it so power is centralised, and where that leads.
As right wingers have read literally no history, we will just have to assume that no such precedent exists.
Ah look. Saving Private Ryan is on. I like the bit where they kill the Nazis. Those guys had it coming. Why? Cos they were the baddies, you silly.
Err we have an independent judiciary.
This is a good thing IMHO.
The government can always override any objections the judiciary makes by changing the law (ie Rwanda).
Isn’t this bollards straight out of the Trump playbook?
Choose one issue to make up at a time.
