MALTA, NY (WRGB) — A traffic stop in Malta started for a vehicle registration infraction ended with two people facing felony drug charges,

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop Thursday evening for a damaged, non-distinctive registration affixed to the incorrect part of a vehicle, on Interstate 87 in the town of Malta.

During the investigation, Joseph L. Plummer, 36, of Galway, and Allen J. Wood, 43, of Corinth, were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 5th degree (class D felony), criminal possession of a controlled substance in the 7th degree and criminally using drug paraphernalia in the 2nd degree (class A misdemeanors).

Plummer and Wood are accused of knowingly and unlawfully possessing 500 milligrams or more of cocaine and of knowingly and unlawfully possessing scales used for weighing or measuring controlled substances under circumstances evincing an intent to use them unlawfully for this purpose. Plummer was also cited for the registration infraction.

Both were arraigned before the Honorable Timothy M. Brown in the Milton Town Court. Plummer was remanded to the Saratoga County Jail and Wood was released to pretrial services pending further proceedings in the Malta Town Court
