I like this measure as opposed to HCOL vs LCOL.

Any opinions?

  1. Where does Idaho rank? States are missing. How come?

  2. It’s slightly better, but that average varies an insane amount within a single state

  3. How do you account for outliers and income spans? If someone like musk lives in your state with billions, and everyone else has a buck left over in their bank accounts at the end of the month, that’s not giving you a realistic view of average disposable income. Maybe you need to chuck the upper and lower 1% to get a better feel for it, where the “1%” represents whatever the actual percentage of extreme outliers are.

  4. Is this before taxes? Because if it is the cost of living and the savings is after tax amounts i believe.

  5. The PNW is terrible, the boogie man liberals live there, crime is uncontrollable, all it does is rain and the women never shave.

    Don’t move here.

    /s

  6. I’d like to see the difference between NYC and the rest of the state.

  7. pointless. It’s using the mean to skew the numbers. Let’s look at the median. Most of the population is living at poverty levels but this can be conveniently hid by using things like the mean (average)

  8. Washington is wet all the time. Dont come here. It gets blazing 80s during the summer.

  9. This isn’t accurate…

I was looking for Florida and it was nowhere to be found.

The average salary in Miami for example is $55K and the average mortgage payment is $2400. If you’re renting, you’re worse off…

There are places in bum fuck nowhere Florida that are cheaper and there are people who make wayyyy more than $55K a year in Miami, but that’s why using averages is a poor metric.

Median wages, COL, housing, etc. should be used instead.

This is a B.S. infographic and should be ignored IMO.

  10. As an ex-texan i didn’t realize how expensive living in Texas was until i left texas.

  11. Compared to other countries the disposable income in each state looks fantastic.

  12. Damn, companies and employers or “people” pay me $32K a year. I see how it is 💀 y’all suck, I can’t even have fun in life that was stolen by lunatics. Everything is free. If you were the only person alive, no one could take or limit how you want life to be. Humans are mentally ill or disabled ahhhh

God, everyone pretends life is great, it isn’t. There are far superior places that can be created and envisioned, but why is this planet of humans so rotten? You know the answer 😕

  13. Washington state is doing its best to reduce our disposable income with heavy taxes, fees and fines/penalties etc. I can’t afford to retire here and pass anything substantial on to my kids unfortunately.

  14. Seems accurate ,where I live in Southern Europe u r lucky if you can save 200 euros.

  15. Seems a good metric. $23,301 doesn’t go as far in Washington as it would in Arkansas though. In Washington the minimum wage is $16.66 and indexed to inflation.

  16. 2 things:

    1. Use mean
    2. Do this include any sales taxes?
