China is winning on renewables. Will it win on green steel, too? While the U.S. backtracks on green steel commitments, Chinese companies are starting to make iron with hydrogen. One just made its first export deal to Europe.

  1. It quite looks like china is becoming the great nation it once was (although not in the societal sense but still)

  2. I want CLEAN COAL. I want it NOW. Come on MR. PRESIDENT (SPIT)!

  3. As they get more solar, they’ll find more advantages with it and more uses of “free” /cheap energy.

Surplus use can be more stored/dam energy or green steel manufacturing using arc furnaces, hydrogen production or desalination or AI DC infrastructure.

Imagine if they were net exporters or surplus energy producers from renewables…the new mandates for heavy industry to use renewable/green energy will revolutionise their heavy industries.

  4. China’s setting themselves up to be the only superpower in the world, while the West (especially the US) fritters away their once insurmountable advantage.

  5. It makes sense to produce steel in China than in Europe. Everything is cheaper there. It’s not a high end product that has a lot of added value. Steel is easy to ship. Europe has a market for green steel, and it makes sense for Europe to import it rather than making their own.

  6. Using hydrogen to make steel isn’t necessarily green. There are green ways to make hydrogen but they are economically unviable compared to steam methane reforming and coal gasification. I wouldn’t bet on electrolysis to catch up any time soon

  7. If the USA continues its current path, China will
Win in all things technology wise. It will take time as these things are not felt immediately. But within 10 years, yah I can see that. Short term plans for China are measured in 5 year increments, most are done thinking decades ahead. The USA? We seem to change things up monthly now.

Imo China is on the rise with the USA on a decline.
