If I was them I might also be a little cheesed that folks at the Sunday market sometimes use their seats, but this "freemen of the land" malarkey was unexpected.

It's a framed sign right by their front door, so I'm guessing the owner is big into the Magna Carta and such. Sign aside it looks like a nice place – shiny tiles, stylish seats, well put together… which is why this notice feels so incongruous.

A bit of glare on the image, so I've copied the text below. I've tried to correct the Google Lens mis-reads, but I may have missed some:

  1. Classic “Magna carter” freemasons pseudo legal bullshit

  2. These conspiracy theorist sovereign citizen types are going to be in for a shock if they’re running a licenced premises. I wonder how they’ll manage the first time the police turn up for a licensing visit….

  3. Always nice when a restaurant tells you up front that the owner thinks food handling regulations are optional.

  4. Sovereign citizens think you can say magic secret words and the police will all go away.

If the police knew to keep away from these words, then they’d be using them themselves.

  5. “No trespassing” would have been a more sensible notice.

  6. The funniest thing about sovereign citizens in the US is that they place liens (a hold on assets for debt collection purposes) on the property of judges and police officers in retaliation for being arrested/imprisoned lol.

  7. All hail King Charles 111, our future cyborg overlord.

  8. Same at their sister restaurant, Uchi, on Clarence road. I always thought it was a sovereign citizen thing – not wanting to close during COVID.

  9. Ah, Sov Cit shit. They probably owe loads of money, and don’t want to pay up, so Google told them this would work. Google is wrong.

  10. At least they’re upfront about employment of illegal workers.

  11. I’m listing all these rules and laws and shit to prove that I don’t have to listen to any of these rules or laws or shit.

Oh, and we’re not telling you who we are.

  12. “By order of King Charles the Hundred and Eleventh…”

  13. I just want some noodles. Do I have to read all that before entering?

  14. Not the point of this post but their ramen is incredibly disappointing

  15. Having a dealt with a few of these sovcit types, I am always grateful that they always end up using it for something super petty. I mean they kill people in the US and ours are always complaining about bin collection or something similar

  16. I see these types a lot in work relating to mortgage/credit card/loan debts and they are just spectacular to read. Trying to work their way out of a pretty water tight contract by saying things like “as the living flesh and blood person of john jones esquire (all lower case as to distinguish my different being from John Jones)” and god knows what else. It’s a wild ride

  17. Imagine the absolute cookers that go there to eat on welfare days

  18. Under Magna Carta, i hereby declare, as a freeman of the land, that’s this restaurant……… is shite

  19. I would not want to work for this person. You just know he would break every single labour law and, even if you sue and win, would make it extremely hard to come and collect what your owed when he inevitably breaks that law.

  20. Do they provide a receipt before you pay?
Then you can reverse Uno them and sign the receipt
The Bearer of this Instrument is free to redeem via UCC 3-108 via the Free Bank of Gringots found at 9 1/2 Barclays Round About Cheshirecat, Leeds, Manchester United.

It’s hard to SovCit in the UK.

  21. Looks like mildew on that notice. I think an inspection is in order.
