Any Idea what this is? Found it on the side of the road. Hopefully it's a mink and not a stoat or something like endangered.

  1. Pine Martin and there very rare around Ireland they are the only predator that can catch and kill the grey squirrels

  2. That’s an odd coincidence. My mum and uncle found a dead pine martin and her dead baby by a road just the other day too :c

  3. Pine Marten

Source: one got into my car and chewed through all the cables while trying to make a nest on the battery (car had only been in the one place for about a day)

Fun fact: they cause millions in auto damage every year, especially in Germany. You may have seen Parkside Anti-Martin Spray in Lidl recently, and they’ve knocked out the large Hadron Collider… twice…

But, as we’re in a dense poplulation zone of them we now have red squirrels living in the area and running through the garden collecting for the winter, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

Edit: I genuinely don’t mind the lil guys and appreciate what they do for the squirrels, and it’s sad seeing some on the road like this, they’re just a little mischievous too and have broken into our kitchen when we left the window in the latch overnight. Clever fellows.

  4. That’s depressing. But people are in a rush I guess

  5. Somewhere in Ireland some grey squirrels are sleeping a little easier tonight.

Sad to see this poor guy gone.

  6. Pine Marten – as others have said, they kill grey squirrels. However, they also kill chickens and honey bees, so not quite as nice as you might have thought.

  7. Pine Marten! They’re absolutely hated in Poland because of how much car damage they cause – they love chewing through cables.

  8. Pine Martin. There’s plenty of them round where I am in the west. For some reason, the ones near me seem quite partial to a Chinese takeaway because any time we have one, the wheelie bin gets raided for the leftovers 🤣 couldn’t work out what it was that was raiding the bins so we stuck a camera out and that caught the culprits – pine martins on the hunt for a chicken chow mein.

  9. As others have said, it’s a Pine Marten. I had one jump out in front of my car the other week. Thankfully, I managed to avoid hitting it.

  10. Pine Marten, fabulous creatures though efficient killers of poultry etc.

    Becoming plentiful around Midlands
