165 migrants rescued south of Gavdos and Kalamata

The Greek Coast Guard carried out three separate migrant rescue operations in the last 24 hours, transporting a total of 165 people to land.

In the area south of Gavdos, 126 foreign nationals were located and rescued from dinghies in two consecutive incidents. In the first case, the migrants were picked up by a tanker with a Maltese flag and transported with the assistance of a Coast Guard vessel to the port of Gavdos, while in the second case the rescue operation was carried out with the participation of a Coast Guard vessel and Frontex.

In the third incident, at least 39 people traveling in a dinghy were located 58 nautical miles south of Kalamata and brought to shore.
