Some trains in Essex cancelled after ‘multiple’ line-side fires

Rail commuters have faced delays and cancellations after “multiple” fires next to the line.

Monday’s fires – between Chelmsford and Ingatestone in Essex – blocked a northbound section of the London to Norwich mainline.

In an update at about 07:30 BST, the fire brigade and Network Rail said the track-side fires were out and the line had re-opened – but disruption was expected until 10:45.

Services, external affected included trains from Liverpool Street to Braintree, Colchester, Clacton, Ipswich and Norwich.
