Council savaged for ‘absurd national loathing’ after England flags removed

1. I’m tired of these headlines.

2. I saw this headline a while back from another rag and I wondered what the **actual** reason would be for it.

   **Someone went and put up these flags on lampposts and other council property without asking for permission or arranging any kind of affordance for doing so.**

   So it has nothing to do with a council somehow hating England or the UK. Glad we got that sorted.

   **EDIT:** Getting replies saying “other flags were flown without being taken down”, but the article says this:

   Are you *sure* this isn’t a manufactured controversy? Because it’s starting to read like one.

   **FURTHER EDIT:** Downvote away. But as you do, just think for a moment; you don’t know all of the details, like where these flags were, if they were in the same place, if the situation really was comparable.

   This is the absolute perfect way to create a media storm; for someone to engineer a situation that’s designed to make you angry. Does it not bother you that you might be being manipulated?

3. Ok but at the same time why would you fly your flag in your own country unless it’s due to some underlying insecurity and lack of confidence.

7. Well now we know how to get potholes fixed: red, white spray paint, quick St Gerorges cross in the hole, council is worried it looks racist (it isn’t) covers it up, bobs your uncle.

11. As someone who lives in Birmingham. These flags have been put up… Pretty disrespectfully, if I’m honest. They’re all zip tied directly to filthy flagpoles so they get dirty immediately, cant be lowered to be cleaned or kept in good condition (again, zip tied). They’re all essentially at half mast, which is again incorrect, and because they’re on lampposts a few I’ve seen have already been plastered with bird shit, which again can’t be cleaned.

    Like the idea is… Okay i guess, but the implantation seems more to provoke this exact reaction from the council rather than to actually show respect for the flag or the country it represents.

12. How many posts do flag shaggers and bots need to spam with? We’re in a climate crisis, mass extinction event, cost of living crisis – and the obsession is a bit of painted cloth.
