During his weekly appearance on Mobile radio FM Talk 106.5’s “The Jeff Poor Show,” State Sen. Chris Elliott (R-Josephine) revealed Trump administration officials raised concerns about so-called Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) policies that remain implemented within the Ivey administration.
The Baldwin County Republican specifically mentioned the Alabama Department of Health and the Office of Minority Affairs.
“[T]here are still vestiges that we need to look at,” he said. “Heck, I was in D.C. not long ago, meeting with some administration folks. And, you know, look, they called out Alabama on a few things. They called out the Alabama Department of Health for some of their DEI language and really focused on that. And listen, we shouldn’t be surprised. We went through COVID with these folks. We know that’s not a bastion of conservatism and quite the opposite, right? And then they called out the governor’s office specifically.
“I mean, this is the Trump administration calling out the Ivey administration on, you know, the Office of Minority Affairs. And we have this big bureaucracy that focuses on that. And so to be in the [Old Executive Office Building (OEOB)], listening to the Trump administration call out the Ivey administration in front of some Ivey staffers and a bunch of legislators, I thought was pretty eye-opening. They’re serious about this. And they’re serious about this at all levels of government. And so we’ve done good work to start with, but we’re not done yet.”
