  1. SS: India’s purchases of Russian crude has to stop for it’s funding Moscow’s war in Ukraine, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said.

    “If India wants to be treated as a strategic partner of the US, it needs to start acting like one,” Navarro wrote in an opinion piece published in the Financial Times. “India acts as a global clearinghouse for Russian oil, converting crude into high-value exports while giving Moscow the dollars it needs.”

    US President Donald Trump has slapped an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, citing New Delhi’s continued purchases of Russian oil, taking total tariffs on imports from India to 50%. India, however, maintains that the country is being unfairly singled out for buying Russian oil while the United States and the European Union continue to purchase goods from Russia.

    New Delhi has cancelled a visit of US envoys to discuss a India-US trade deal amid plans for a meeting between PM Narendra Modi and China President Xi Jinping.

  6. With such a braindead guy as the white house counsellor for trade, it’s no wonder there is no deal between India and US. What accusations and statements, he doesn’t even know that India and Russia do trade in local currency and strategic partnership doesn’t mean getting a new vassal. And it is very rich coming from US which lists pakistan as major non-nato ally.

    Advisors are supposed to have read history. Crippling sanctions didn’t stop India from doing nuclear test, these sanctions aren’t stopping India from trading with Russia.

    One thing that Indian leadership hates more than Pakistan, is a western power telling them what to do.

  9. The US made India stop buying crude from Iran. Then they made India stop buying crude from Venezuela, only to start making oil deals with the Venezuelans themselves. Now they want India to stop buying crude from Russia too? So where exactly are we supposed to buy from? Is the US going to match the rates that Russia offers? Honestly, they should just take a hike.

  10. This is not about Ukraine. If it were, we would see good faith efforts between the US, Russia and Ukraine.

    This is about protecting American oil companies and stunting Indian economic growth.

  11. India has been paying Russia in Indian Rupees which Russia has been parking in Indian banks (they have no use for it unless they buy something from India).

    If the aggressive posturing of bringing the naval fleet to the Bay of Bengal in 1971 and the sanctions after the nuclear tests of 1998 didn’t hurt India, why does the US think it would now (now that India is a 4 trillion dollar economy). Clearly neither Trump not his droogies read history.

  12. India should learn to negotiate like the US – first levy tariffs, then force the country to make concessions to get them reduced; similarly India should start exporting tanks and artillery shells to Russia, then negotiate tariff concessions from US & EU to stop those exports.
