  8. Did this movie get any advertising? I’ve never heard of it until now which is probably the bigger factor over a jeans commercial imo guys

    Edit: I guess it’s an indie she filmed a while ago that’s just releasing now. So they probably had too small of a budget for proper marketing.

  13. I don’t think it was because of the jeans. I’m not saying she’s a terrible actress, she’s been in a lot of things. But she’s not that memorable either.

  16. I don’t think that had to do with the “jeans controversy.” I would say the fact that there was zero advertising and marketing for it could be a bigger reason. I’ve never heard of it until now, and that includes the pre-movie trailers in the theaters. I’ve gone a few times in the past month and never saw a trailer for it or any kind of coming soon advertising in the theater or anywhere else.

    So, I wouldn’t frame it as having anything to do with whatever people are arguing about concerning American Eagle.

  18. You know I only ever read articles about people hating Sydney Sweeney. Never seen an actual person who gives a fuck about her one way or the other.

  19. The AE ad has nothing to do with it. This movie was in limbo for years! It was filmed in 2022 and finished in 2023. It got great reviews at the film festivals but never got released. Now it gets tossed out into the wild without any promotion whatsoever. Nobody even heard about this film. Nobody knew about it

  22. A couple weeks ago we were being told that nobody was actually upset about the AE jeans article and it was bad faith trolling by MAGA to try and mainstream an issue that was only offending the tiniest radical minority on the left.

    Now we’re being told that the “controversy” around the AE ad was not only real but it was big enough to tank the box office of a movie.

    These two narratives are incongruent.

  26. This entire time I’ve been confusing Sydney Sweeney and Sabrina Carpenter. I definitely know they’re different people, one a singer and one an actor, but for some reason I’ve been thinking Sabrina as it pertains to the AE ad.

The rightwing nutjob sphere is constantly looking for a single solitary case of some liberal being stupid or weird, and then conflate it into a fake controversy. And If they can’t find that one, they will make it up out of thin air, like the Furry litterbox fiction and the front-feeding fiction.
