Newly registered companies and bankruptcies in Bulgaria have increased during the second quarter of this year, Eurostat reported here on Monday.

Newly registered companies in Bulgaria in the second quarter of 2025 increased by 7.3% compared to 2.7% drop in the first quarter.

Companies in Bulgaria that filed for bankruptcy rose by 7.7% in Q2 after a decrease of 5.8% in the first quarter.

In the EU the number of new business registrations increased by 4.6% compared to a 5.5% decline during the first quarter.

Over the same period, company bankruptcy declarations rose by 1.7% compared with Q1, when the registered decrease was 0.3%.

The only economic sector that did not record a surge in business registrations between Q1 and Q2 is industry, while the highest growth was in transport (+13.1%). Among the other Member States, the Netherlands marks the highest increase of business registrations between Q1 and Q2, 57.7%, followed by Spain (27.6%) and Romania (19%), while Germany reports the highest decrease, -6.2%. Bankruptcies rose the most in Latvia (70.7%) with Sweden recording the highest decrease, -8.1%.
