They should ban dividends to shareholder too until the mess is fully cleaned up and they have proper reliable working infrastructure in place that top anymore pollution, or make the penalties so bad that every other option that gets them to put everything they have into getting it together begins to look good.
edit: messy typo
The water companies are just easy scape goats, the government is up to their neck in this and then conveniently say “oh well they’re private businesses”. Government determines how much they can charge and judge what a reasonable rate of return should be for investors.
Yeah do that and they’ll just do what the banks did, give them ‘Fixed Pay Allowances’ that aren’t even subject to any conditions.
But then they may have to give a better public service and make less profit!
Why on earth would (Tory) voters think that is a good policy?
Is England and Wales the only countries in the western world (or maybe whole world) that have fully privatised water
They will just lobby the government to make loopholes that will still allow them to claim them then. That’s what the rich do these days, they look for any opportunity they can to earn as much as they can and avoid paying as much tax as possible.
Why do people just laugh at Lib Dems? Genuine question
Better yet, just ban the act of dumping sewage , you know, like it used to be.
The water bosses will simply blame something else like they didnlast year during the floods. When my flat got flooded by rain and sewer water and TW denied it was their fault
What are they getting bonuses for if they’re not doing the one thing they’re meant to – keeping our water clean?
Why not just nationalise them some things shouldn’t be businesses
Insufficient information. What constitutes a ‘spill’, and what counts as ‘sewage’?
