Why can’t he imagine it? Putin isn’t interested in a ceasefire, only an actual peace deal, but his demands are absolutely absurd.
Yes, Trump is a terrible president and negotiator, but it’s not like another president could wave a wand and create a ceasefire. If I had it my way, I’d arm Ukraine more and might not even bother with the totally pointless Putin discussions.
To put it simply, a ceasefire isn’t on the table unless it would somehow benefit Putin.

I think Putin lost one opportunity with the last meeting. He simply can not imagine getting less than he was looking for….He can not sell (even if public opinion in Russia is eleusive) a ceasefire after loosing wounded or killed more than a million men, massive destruction of tanks, planes, armored vehicles.
Russia economy is also at the risk of collapsing if money stop to flow to the war machine.
Well mister Hertz, I think it’s time for more imagination…

I wish he had said “I’ll eat my hat if the next meeting does not end in a ceasefire”. At least we’d have something to look forward to after Putin refuses to waver from maximalist demands and walks away from another negotiation. Frankly I doubt he’ll even dare to attend a trilateral meeting, if it means he’ll have to face Zelensky. If this doesn’t work, arm Ukraine to the teeth and declare a no-fly zone in western and central Ukraine. Slava Ukraine!
