Apparently Gary Neville doesn’t love this country because he criticised its leaders. What nonsense

  1. In the Tory world, they are the UK, so their dogma teaches them that if you criticise the Tory party, ergo, you hate the country.

Just ask them why they hate the Queen by supporting Johnsons criminality regarding breaking lockdown rules which the Queen followed in the most harrowing of circumstances.

Watch their head explode when confronted with that cognitive dissonance.

  2. The route to fascism is not short, but this is absolutely one of the steps on the way. Pretending only one party speaks for the people, and that anyone who disagrees is therefore against the people, is a core part of far-right politics.

  3. This is the UK import of the American right wing trope . .

“Why does X hate the USA?”

Where X has stood up for human rights or made a statement against racism or some similar terrible thing.

  4. I dont love this country. I’m undoubtedly lucky to have been born here but there’s plenty that annoys me or that I hate about it…

Why should we blindly love a country?

  5. FFS Gary Neville, I’m a life long Liverpool fan so stop being so bloody likable. Same goes for Marcus Rashford.

  6. What’s wrong with hating your country when it becomes full of shitty people doing shitty things?
I used to think the shitty people doing shitty things were a minority, but my understanding is that the “Rwanda” proposal is popular with the general public.
I want to be proud of my country, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult.

  7. Well, the country chose these leaders, so if you have a problem with the leaders you must have a problem with the country in general. QED /s

  8. As quite a few people have pointed out, in their rush to dance on his grave, all the fash have done is highlight how a millionaire can issue a mea culpa and accept their medicine with grace and dignity rather than lying and trying to wriggle out of it.

  9. Wanting things to be better for the country and everyone in it gets called ‘not loving’ it. How very American

  10. Why should you love your country? What’s it got to do with you? I just happened to be born here, through a cosmic lottery. Nationalism is the reserve of cowards and people who have never done anything themselves.

  11. Well that’s stupid.

But in any case, why is there a need to ‘love’ the country anyway? I’m a British citizen. I was born here. I have a right to be here and a right to have an opinion on it. Do I love it? Fuck no. Right now i don’t even *like* it. It’s just a bit of land ffs why do I need to ‘love’ it.

  12. They attack anyone that doesn’t agree with the political views of the mainstream media.

  13. Patriotism – the invention of the rich and powerful to get idiots to be happy about being exploited and willingly fight and die for the benefit of the rich and powerful.

  14. The tories resorting to such attack lines show he has them shaking in their boots. A man like him from a working class northern background will win over a lot of red-wall voters and puts a dent in De Pfeffel’s “man of the people” persona.

  15. We have a government of Anti British people who pillage our country, destroying anything respectable or valuable to make themselves rich. These Anti British conmen wave the flag and scream about it so loud to distract as they have actively killed the country and its people. They’re making every disaster worse to maximise their personal profits at a cost to the public. They’re trying to prevent immigration by breaking anything people considered great about Great Britain.

The PM and his closest allies have no respect for this country and view the voters with contempt. They have lied to the Queen, lied to Parliament, one was caught engaging in Treason, one has repeatedly lost jobs for lying, others have said and done nasty things towards the British public and all of them think you’re pathetic for voting Tory when they clearly don’t represent you.

  16. trying to brand those who dont worship the state unquestioningly as “others” is a textbook fascist play. Just saying.

  17. To criticise lord god king Boris is to commit treason. And Labour is hereby outlawed under penealty of death – What Boris wishes he could do.

  18. This country fucking stinks. What exactly am I supposed to be proud about in the UK? All of our merits are literally hoarded and heralded by a ruling minority within the country.

Wealth and prosperity on paper means nothing when people in my area are begging door to door with their fucking bills clutched in their hands because they can’t afford to pay their rent AND eat. I’m beyond even trying with politics anymore. If it wasn’t that you had to see things gradually getting worse for so many I’d disregard it entirely as the boring bullshit it mostly is. The failure of the left wing to capitalise on the absolute shit show that has been the last 2 decades of Tories just feels like tacit approval of what they’re doing at this point. The whole thing needs to be radically reformed.

  19. Tories being offended and hurt by a single comment, while at the same time screaming “freedom of speech” every time they shit on some poor soul. Nothing unusual here.

  20. That can be argued both ways, accepting the farce we currently have a leadership shows far less caring for the country.

  21. “Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”

    ~~ Hermann Goering.
