Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs travelled to the north-east of the country on August 19th to look at how infrastructure projects are coming along and to talk to various officials who help patrol and secure the border with Latvia’s aggressive neighbours, Russia and Belarus.

Sporting military fatigues in place of his usual suit, photos showed the head of state walking along the border and chatting with border guards, military personnel and customs officers.
