> “Everything is in the writing, right? Everything is on the page, and I think there’s definitely, I’m sure there’s a way to create something,” he told the crowd at the 2025 edition of Fan Expo Chicago on Saturday, attended by Entertainment Weekly. The other must? “I would personally love to see everybody back. I think the way to win on that one is to get everybody back. If they can, and if everybody wanted to go back.”
“Look, we all bought some really expensive stuff over the years and most of this is being filmed on a beach…”
I don’t think Pirates needs a full-on reboot, but if “everyone” has to come back, then I definitely think that the series needs to retcon 5 out of canon. Not because I think it’s bad, but because the ending felt both absolute and rushed. 5 felt like a rushed wrap-up, as if the crew felt like they needed to rush and make it before Disney changed their minds on a 5th and tie up all loose ends. I personally can’t see how “everyone” can return after 5’s ending, unless they just ignore its existence and retcon the story.
Personal opinion: Barbosa is too likeable and iconic to not bring back, I think he’s as integral as Jack Sparrow
unemployed man wants old job back
I think what they failed to realize is that Elizabeth and Will are the story. Jack is just a fun writing piece to play with. Then they made it all about jack and it went down hill.
They had to give Keira Knightley a bunch of money just to make a cameo in the last one, it doesn’t seem like she’s interested in doing big movies anymore.
The idea that anyone has any appetite to see a washed up physically and sexually abusive piece of shit with a raisin of a face that reflects all the alcohol and drugs he’s consumed since being relevant is beyond baffling to me. JD is not getting butts in seats even if his horrible online defenders make it seem like he’s still got the draw of Brad Pitt or Tim cruise.
The reunion won’t happen because at least one of the original cast has to have enough self respect to never be associated with that piece of human garbage. Pretty sad that that’s not Orlando bloom though.
Edit: wow the JD stans are really out in force today, downvote me all you want, you’re the ones defending a violent sexual assaulter who is washed up and has no talent. 🤷♂️
Jack is the frosting, but Will and Elizabeth is the cake. They gave us pure frosting to eat and that was too much.
If this happened I would live at the theater for a week
Or none of them.
Someone needs a paycheck now that he split from Perry
Trying to do damage control after Bezos’ wedding. Sorry, he was never a good actor; he was hired for his look and then Hollywood gave him a chance, and he cannot carry the ring on his own. It’s not a moral failing, but he doesn’t need to be lied to either.
I feel like 5 had a pretty good definitive happy ending for everybody and then they ruined it with the stupid mid-credits teaser which made zero sense.
If they’re going to do more movies set in that world that’s fine but I think the OG cast’s story is wrapped up. Will and Elizabeth live happily ever after with their son, Jack gets to continue sailing the world as free as a bird with his crew.
I want to see them do this, but write an absolutely insane script. Borderline a joke script, but include a ton of practical effects and good actors.
I just want to see that cast, as space pirates 🏴☠️
Anecdotal but he’s right. I never cared about 4 because the focus was only on Jack. I cared a little bit about 5 because Will was sort of in it but the Will/Elizabeth dynamic was at least found in his son and the Barbosa girl.
But the only way for me to really care is if this is a true sequel to the original trilogy and not just another standalone adventure starring 1 or 2 of them.
Maybe it’s a big ask, but I’d also like Gore and Hans back as well.
Sounds like he’s running out of LOTR moolah
It’s going to be hard to get all the extras and all of the crew members that have worked on the previous films in the franchise back together, tbh
Orlando Bloom needs work
Breaking news – actor wants work
Let’s be clear. It needs the director “Gore” back in order to be successful. With out him Jack became an idiot character
Haha somebody needs some cash post Katy divorce..
I honestly don’t even care too much if all of the OG cast returns. What I need to be invested in a new Pirates movie is Verbinski to come back.
I’ll take a quality script instead of everybody returning. The later movies had too many characters as it was.
They also need to make Jack more of a side character like the first one. Hes fun. Hilarious. Etc. but as the primary protagonist he’s not the best and is one of the reasons I think the later films didn’t find the same footing as the first.
And don’t get me wrong, I love Jack. Brilliant character.
That’s okay, I don’t need a new one
I’ll save Disney tens of millions now: Don’t make it. Come up with a new idea.
I can continue providing this valuable service for– let’s say 1% of what I save the company.
Deal?
They don’t need any of them back. I mean, some cameos would be cool but they just need a great script and captivating characters.
Orlando Bloom just wants another massive paycheck.
Or how about just come up with something new for a change?
That’s a big part of it
Ok. Hear me out….No it doesn’t.
Hmm… seems convenient. Maybe just start fresh.
They just disappeared the entire crew from the 3 movies. 4 and 5 felt so hollow without the entire ensemble
And it can’t be glorified cameo’s like in the The Force Awakens. It should focus mainly on the legacy characters showing the kids how it’s done (because you know there HAS to be a young couple 🤮
I mean he is not wrong
Or, and hear me out here, we could… produce *original* content!!
