We don’t know the actual cost. We are being bullied by the US. These planes can be deactivated / require US blessing for usage. There are European alternatives. Contract is not yet signed.

Time to rethink?

  1. There is actually very little or nothing to rethink.

  2. In theory yes, in reality it would likely worsen the tariff outcome. Switzerland was complacent and Uncle Sam holds all the cards.

  3. Ditch the bitch and buy euro fighters. Might even help to get better relationships with our friends in Europe!

  4. Hundred percent cancel that shit and buy something from a reliable partner instead.

Also we should be buying more anyway. 36 jets was deemed sufficient pre-Ukraine and before america started threatening to invade all sorts of western democracies like its the 1800s again.

We thought we need 36 jets just to check out the occasional cessna with a broken radio in our skies. So obviously 36 won’t be enough for sustained combat with some kind of enemy who wants to conquer us. That’s what we should be preparing for.

So cancel the F-35 and order european jets instead and immediately start planning for a second tranche of another 36ish jets to be ordered asap.

  5. They can’t be deactivated/require a blessing? That part is just Russian propaganda.

  6. i do not want those seven bobble heads to think about it anymore and just cancel it. i do not like where their thinking got us…

  7. Fucking cancel it holy shit

    It’s not that hard.

We vote again, this time on Rafale, Eurofighter or (preferably for my sanity) Gripen E.

  8. Cancel me buy local ffs.

Paying protection doesn’t actually protect you.

  9. Are you sure it isn‘t signed yet? I haven‘t read about it.

  10. Use this as leverage in the tariff situation: either we buy the F35 and we have no tariffs (or at least no more than say 10%), or we do not buy them. Let the US defence industry do the lobbying on your behalf.

  11. Cancel that shit contract, buy EU planes. Otherwise we’ll just get blackmailed for spare parts and maintenance.

  12. Why not send a request for an offer to China for 36x J-20. Just to piss off cowboys … Not saying it should end up with purchase, neither that Chinese would sell it.

  13. Can someone who’s into war stuff explain to me how the F35 ever made sense in the first place? The operating space over Switzerland is so tiny, how would the military even make use of the networking stuff or stealth capabilites?

Wouldn’t something that you can pull out of a bunker and take off from the Kantonstrasse like a Gripen make way more sense for Switzerland’s defense doctrine? Something that doesn’t need multiple hours of maintenance work for every flight hour?

  14. As an aviarion enthusiast I would love if our air force would evaluate the KAI KF21 for service. The Block 10 variant is a 4.5 gen built with (not complete but present) stealth capabilities. It is most likely cheaper than a Rafale, uses 2 easy to maintenance and cost effective GE F414 engines (same as the susper hornet and very similar to the F404 of our hornets) with possible fiture upgrade to a full 5th gen with drone buddy capabilities.
South Korea would be much less sensitive to foreign policy and allow a big part of technology transfer for domestic replacement parts or customization.
