  1. The crime stuff is way overblown – laughable seeing grown men say they wouldn’t walk down normal city centre streets at night – but you don’t have to travel to many European cities to see that Dublin is excessively dirty and has a really poor quality public realm. Even some US cities, not noted for their amazing public services, leave Dublin in the dust.

Although it’s definitely more of an issue in the areas administered by DCC as opposed to some of the other councils like DLR.

  2. The coke one is probably true for most young people in the country so can’t blame Dublin for that. People do love the sneachta.

  3. Honestly the coke one is true, since coming back to Dublin i regularly hear about it. I was so surprised at how common it was

  4. The coke epidemic is in every major Western city. Our problem is because of how our libel laws work the press can report more than in other countries.

Dublin is far from dirty and delapitated, it’s just small enough that you have to pass through the crappy bits to get to where you are going and that is also why the scrotes are visible, the bad areas overlap with the normal ones.

The Guards are just 30 years behind most other police forces, like just about every Irish organisation they are still living with the legacy of Dev’s Ireland where authority of Church and state were sacrosanct and unquestionable. This is a young country which in my opinion had a bad start with irresponsible leadership for too many decades. But things are slowly improving.

Yes public transport is a disgrace. As is housing and all infrastructure projects. We need the metro, we need electric vehicle charging infrastructure, we need to reopen long closed railway lines, (never mind Dublin to Navan, 60 years ago the line went as far as oldcastle), we need thousands of new social houses, bypasses and motorways, not just radiating from Dublin but outer rings joining the major roads like the M50 but further out.

  5. Someone texted in to Newstalk that she’d been in Dubai and felt so safe in comparison to Dublin, despite the lack of visible police. Upon asking a local why this was, she was told the police are all plain-clothed and nobody commits crime out of fear of being watched.

Incredibly, she thought this was a good idea for Ireland

  6. I don’t mind Dublin, but I’m from Belfast, so the shite that gets said about Dublin we get too.

Always had great craic there and I like the Dublin craic.

  7. I knew the “scrotes” thing would be on there. When I read these threads I always imagine them like the gang of droogs from A Clockwork Orange.

  8. I literally had to walk from Tara Street to Capel Street today for the 1st time in years and it’s utterly disgusting. Filthy and full of shitheads. Really feels unsafe and moody.

  9. The only 2 experiences i had in dublin were 3 lads harassing me and my man and his older bro who was autistic, even after we told them he was autistic they still took the piss outta him. The 2nd experience was nearly getting raped near heuston train station so i shall keep my opinions of dublin low for now

  10. Dublin is an amazing city. Yes, Ireland in general hits above it’s depth of the pool due to tax laws, but still a very nice easy city to live in. This sub is just negative. But aren’t all subs… Watching everyone bitch here everyday is tiring.

  11. Last time I was in Dublin I went to use a bank machine. Someone had somehow climbed up, pulled down their trousers, wedged there arse into position and shat on the keypad of the ATM. Then wiped their arse and stuck paper to the screen.

  12. Arrived back in Dublin recently for first time since before Covid. Within an hour of walking around the city centre I had some scrote trying to fight me. Dublin city centre is a fucking kip.

  13. I lived in Ireland for a year and am from Mexico, and the comparison of the crime with Juarez had me laughing so hard.

I too read that kind of comments and I just think WUT?? It was super safe! But we all like to complain about our cities.

  14. I don’t mind people saying any of this because there’s a certain amount of truth to it but I can’t believe some people think all of this is unique to Dublin. That‘s just wanting to be different

  15. Once you realise that this sub is made up of embarrassing curtain twitchers who are afraid of going outside, it makes a lot more sense.

“Hurr hurr, you’re on this sub so you’re a what you just said”

    It’s a fucking cringefest

  16. I like Dublin. Yeah if you hang around in certain place with certain people it’ll be like this meme. But if you see the good parts of the city it makes it easier
