  1. “French President Emmanuel Macron urged Europeans to “have no illusions” about today’s Russia and abandon hope for its imminent return to peace and democracy. In an interview with LCI, he called the Russian Federation a “long-term destabilizing force” and Vladimir Putin a “predator” who “needs to continue eating for his own survival.” Macron recalled that since 2007-2008, the Kremlin has repeatedly violated its obligations and sought to redraw borders to expand its influence.

“A country that allocates up to 40% of its budget to appropriate weapons and has mobilized an army of more than 1.3 million troops will not become a peaceful and open democracy overnight. <… >This is a real threat to the whole of Europe,” he stressed.

The skepticism of the French president extends to the chances of an early peace agreement on Ukraine. In a conversation with NBC News, Macron noted that he does not share the optimism of US President Donald Trump. “I look at the facts and I don’t see that Putin is seeking peace now, although perhaps I am too pessimistic,” the head of state said.

A knowledgeable senior EU diplomat told the Financial Times that during Donald Trump’s talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders in Washington the day before, Macron insisted on additional sanctions against Moscow. Trump, according to the publication, replied that the White House first wants to see what a possible meeting between Zelensky and Putin will lead to.

On August 19, Macron wrote on social network X that the united efforts of the West for the sake of “lasting and lasting peace” in Ukraine should be accompanied by the preservation of sanctions pressure: “It is obvious to us: pressure on Russia must be maintained until peace is achieved.” He added that, together with Zelensky and European partners, he reiterated this position to Trump in the White House.

Earlier, answering questions from reporters after a meeting in Washington, Macron said that if the settlement process is disrupted, sanctions against Russia will have to be tightened. “In any case, [it is necessary] to take a position that will increase pressure on the Russian side,” he said (quoted by BFMTV).”-The Moscow Times

  2. Russia can’t return to peace since it was never something they actually did… (hint: count the wars/”insurgencies” they started since the collapse of the USSR)

  3. What? No Gold Gilding? He’s not a real leader.

  4. In the last 400 years (from 1625 to 2025), Russia has spent very little time without an authoritative ruler.  **Approximately 8 of the past 400 years** were spent without a clearly authoritarian ruler. The remaining **392 years** were dominated by strong centralized or autocratic governance.

  5. Why is this man so unpopular in France? He carries himself very well in international affairs.

  6. When history looks back on this period in time, there will be a measure of shame for American leaders.

  7. I hope Ukraine’s allies get their collective crap together soon We are running out of time. Words are pretty sharp and meetings long, but they need to to accelerate more help to Ukraine and less intelligence with the US, who is determined not to help. I suspect we have until next month before it gets really crazy over there. from north korea now sending troops and tanks, to belarus law decrees and troop movements towards poland and Ukraine, and the russian September exercises that have a history of starting wars, The deck of diplomacy is about to get shuffled really hard soon. I hope we are ready. Slava Ukraini

  8. I agree 100%.

Europeans must not be naive or bury their heads in the ground like the Ostrich.

Economic experts have come to the same conclusion.

Building up the military to 1.3 million men is hard to dismantle and turn back, it could take years.

The same with the military industrial arms manufacturers, they have to find other overseas customers or go out of business. Once they have invested in raw materials and machinery that investment must be returned or they may go broke.

  9. If ANYONE believes Putin will change his ways and become some kind of “model citizen” they are complete delusional.

The only thing Putin wants with this is enough time to let his economy recover a bit and to rearm. Then he will be back, worse than ever.

Appeasement of monsters never worked in any case in our World’s History.

Hitler never contemplated any kind of negotiation right to the moment he shot himself, Napoleon continued to plot and scheme even when exiled. etc…

Monsters must be defeated. It is the only way to make them go away.

  10. Can Macron be our next European leader instead of von der leyen?

  11. There s only one way to peace. Evebody knows it but it s very hard to vocalize it

  12. I’m not sure why the anybody wants a peace agreement with Russia. They won’t follow one anyway.

  13. Coming from a guy who had almost weekly calls with putin in 2022. So, yes, forget the negotiations

  14. From a future obeserver: “we coudl’ve fought back while the enemy was weak and we were strong. The Ukrainians kept them in check, while dying in the hundreds. Bright trained men with soul and courage for a real unity. But we were occupied by the enemy to keep up a peace agenda that never was. Only observing, talking politics while the enemy was bombing and moving his army mile after mile disregarding souls and families. Man after man and soldier after soldier until he eventually reached our doorstep. And that was where the real shitshow began. If only we realized earlier.”

  15. Macron is the best! A very strong and wise leader! This man should by the president of the EU💪

  16. How often do they want to tell us putin is a threat, do something. Since many years every second leader is telling us putin is a threat some of them are talking about it more than once in a year and still talking talking talking. At the beginning of trumps election there was a little chance Europe is doing something. Right now they are talking with putin every month 5 times. In turkey, in Dubai, in Alaska, next time in Tschernobyl?!

  17. With public support European leaders could join Ukraine in ejecting Russia from Ukraine. Canada and other allies could participate as well while the US remains in abject abandonment of its allies. Wouldn’t that be a fascinating chapter in world affairs for historians and Hollywood to work through!

Ukraine would stop losing its people to the war, Russia would learn a long overdue lesson and the west would move on from the sad and long held illusion of US leadership and loyalty.

Unfortunately, our politicians suffer from weak public support of the war, itself the product of their failure in making the cases effectively to their citizens. similar blame, should go to western news media . Responsibility also lies with western public bodies of course who fail to appreciate the dangers posed by Russia.

  18. Everyone seems to get it, except our clown.

Now if the world gets it, and you don’t, you are on the wrong side of history.
