I had a bit of enterococci on the weekend
The deregulation of water companies and leaving the EU water standards is working out really well
Dŵr Cymru (Welsh Water) said it did not believe it was responsible for the pollution as they weren’t pumping raw sewage into the sea on the day the samples were taken…
Yeah – this is painful to read. One of the main reasons for leaving the EU were/was the “We hate those stupid rules handed down from Brussels”. That’s fine, but when those rules serve to protect your water quality and the wider environment – and more importantly **punish** those who abuse or break those rules. Your wider population and environment are left open to abuses to which Wales – and lets not forget the state the English find themselves in, have no protection from. Education systems need to add a curriculum for understanding “you get what you vote for”.
Great. Had a dip in there on Sunday 🤢
A brexit benefit.
This is what *they* voted for, for companies to do what they like. That is what “taking back control” meant.
Leave the EU, take the enterococci
The lead cause of river pollution which enters the oceans is from animal waste from farming activities.
Yes water companies are bad, and you all know how many sewage discharges some beaches get which are in to the hundreds per year, but that is just a fraction of what enters our rivers, oceans and water table compared to animal-farming slurry and waste and the majority of that isn’t even documented, and it still beats water treatment for how bad it is.
