The object that fell and exploded near Osiny in the Lublin Province was a military drone, but without a warhead, most likely a decoy, according to a source close to the Ministry of Defense who spoke to PAP on Wednesday.

An unknown object fell and exploded in a cornfield near the village of Osiny in the Łuków County in the Lublin region.

According to unofficial information obtained by PAP from sources close to the Ministry of Defense, the object was a military drone, but without a warhead, containing only a small amount of explosives.

As indicated, the drone was most likely a so-called decoy—a drone whose task is to engage air defense systems and divert their “attention” from strictly combat drones.

    >The incident in Osiny is a good time to remind everyone that Poland currently lacks a system capable of detecting objects entering our airspace at low altitudes. If it was indeed a military drone, the Operational Command’s statement about its failure to register it is true in the sense that we simply don’t have such capabilities.

    >Today, we can only rely on luck to detect such objects , i.e., a chance flyover by an early warning aircraft in the area where such an object is moving across the border. However, we are still waiting for real capabilities to detect such targets.

    >This real possibility is the BARBARA radar system. It is a set of four aerostats with radars mounted on them. The aerostats of this particular system are capable of reaching an altitude of approximately 3,000 meters , allowing the radars to detect objects from a distance of up to 300 km, because at this altitude, the radars are not limited by terrain obstacles or the curvature of the earth.

    >The lengthy process of acquiring the BARBARA system began in 2017, and in May 2024 it was finally purchased for $960 million. However, the system is not expected to become operational until the second half of 2027.

    >This situation is partly due to the complex technical dialogue and procurement processes themselves. Another reason is that for a long time, the BARBARA system was relatively low on the priority list of air defense system purchases. A much more pressing need was considered for the long-range Patriot air defense system and other systems capable of detecting objects at higher altitudes.

    >Polish decision-makers reacted too late to the drone revolution that followed the Russian-Ukrainian war. For all these reasons, we will remain virtually blind to low-altitude aircraft entering Poland for the next two years.

  7. Nie wiem, co się stało, ale zaraz mają byc jakieś rozmowy pokojowe więc to była rosyjska fałszywa flaga udająca ukraińską fałszywą flagę udająca rosyjski atak. Moje podejrzenia opieram na fakcie, że Księżyc obecnie zanika. Musimy wysłać Izraelowi rakiety.

  11. Doniesienia medialne w tej sprawie to jest jakis żałosny zart. Rano TVN24 twierdził, ze spadł stary silnik ze śmigłem i nie ma żadnego leja w ziemi po uderzeniu. To wszystko mimo faktu, ze fala uderzeniowa wybiła szyby w pobliskich domach.
    Po południu wp informuje, ze lej jednak jest, spadł wojskowy dron, ale bez głowicy bojowej. Bez głowicy, ale z materiałami wybuchowymi. To jak kurła? Materiały wybuchowe nie klasyfikują się jako głowica bojowa? Dla dziennikarzy słowo głowica kojarzy się chyba tylko z elementem silnika w Passat’cie 1.9 TDI.
    Wojsko mówi, ze nie zaobserwowano naruszenia przestrzeni powietrznej, wiec dron chyba teleportował się nad to pole kukurydzy. Rozumiem, ze wszyscy uważają, ze mogą nam wcisnąć najgłupszy kit i my to łykniemy? To pytanie retoryczne.
