Firefighters in Spain, Portugal battled ongoing wildfires Friday (August 15), an important religious holiday in all three countries, as persistent hot, dry conditions challenged efforts to contain the blazes. The fires raging across Portugal claimed their first victim Friday, President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced.
