  1. Guided artillery shell. Would not want to be a tanker in Ukraine.

  2. I was an artillerist in the German army (Bundeswehr) on the 155mm M109 and for me it is crazy that drones can cary even 105mm shells or larger variants like this (I think it‘s a 122mm shell.) That are nearly 50 pounds or 22 kilograms in scientific units.

  3. Solenoid on the shell strap suggests it drops it rather than kamikaze?

  4. How much the metal casing weight though ? Wouldn’t they save quite a bit to strap just an explosive device without the heavy shell required to shoot it from a barrel ?

  5. and the dumb ass Americans built expensive jdams instead of doing this…. /j

  6. I wonder if you could pack the pipes that make up the drone’s arms with C4 and have the drone *be* the shell.

  7. Here we go. 155mm shell. The very best there is. When you absolutely, positively got to kill every motherfucker in the room, accept no substitutes.

    I heard that once.

  8. An additional benefit would be if the ordinance could be dropped so the drone would not go to waste.

  9. I feel like you could have a much bigger and useful payload on this size of drone.

  10. Basically a guided artillery projectile for about what? $20k a shot vs $100k per Excalibur „pop”

  11. It looks like a device to cut off strings / release strings that are holding the shell. I think this might be a bomber and no suicide.

  12. The Ukrainians are rewriting military strategy in real time. We’re witnessing a military shift of the same magnitude as what happened with the introduction of the longbow or artillery.

  13. So many people worried about the drone. Even if these are 1 way units and only have a 25% confirmmed hit rate that is so much cheaper than expending 50 -100 younds of arty to maybe hit your targetm
