Greece’s stricter migration policies are showing results, government officials say, citing a sharp decline in arrivals over the past six weeks.
In the last 45 days, 1,300 migrants entered the country, compared to daily entries of 700 people before recent measures.
The turning point came in early July, when authorities suspended asylum application processing.
During the first week after that decision, 2,642 people entered in seven days, peaking at 700 daily arrivals.
July saw 913 total entries; August recorded fewer than 400. Officials estimate that without policy changes, 6,000-7,000 people would have entered by now.
