  1. They think it shouldn’t be guaranteed at all. But they might accept any guarantee, given that Russians will have a veto on it. I.e., if there will be no guarantee.

  2. I don’t think he has much to worry about. I’ll eat my own ass if European nations station troops in Ukraine that are actually expected to fight Russia if the guns come back out.

  4. Budapest Memorandum V2 where they just ignore what is writtent there. Any documents signed by Putin’s regime will be just fake promises.

  15. They want a non-binding promise like the budapest memorandum. They want Ukraine to give up its fortress cities that Ukraine still holds, to get worthless promises from the US and Europe and to let Russia recover its economy and military and then come back in a few years to finish the job.

  28. IMHO, European security guarantees are essential to make a peace deal. Ukraine isn’t going to get any comfort from security guarantees which the aggressor, Russia, provides or has veto rights over. This proposal is a deal breaker.

  29. When a president can ignore a memorandum, treaty or law, there is no guarantee.

  30. We prefer Russian troops out of Ukraine, so let’s trade.
