Crude oil production was up by 18% year-on-year in January-June at 593,000 tonnes.

Natural gas production edged up to 977 million cubic metres from 956 million cubic metres in the base period.

The ministry said Hungary’s crude oil production exceeded 1 million tonnes in 2024 for the first time in 20 years.

Based on the proportional H1 numbers, 2025 could be the strongest year of the century in this regard. Natural gas extraction from domestic field reached around 1.9 billion cubic meters last year, equalling to more than one-fifth of total consumption or nearly two-thirds of residential needs.

The ministry noted that at the beginning of summer, it had signed contracts with winners of tenders for hydrocarbon concessions in the areas of Buzsák, Csongrád, Hatvan, Kiskőrös, Kiskunhalas, and Tamási.
