Congressman Adrian Smith said a detention facility being built in his district is the governor “focusing on solutions.” On Tuesday, Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen announced the agreement to run an Immigration and Enforcement Customs detention site in McCook. It will be operated out of the current Work Ethic Camp facility. Congressman Smith said he was not surprised by the announcement. Smith has represented the state’s 3rd congressional district since 2007.”The immigration issue under the current administration is being addressed,” Smith said. “The previous administration, it was not. And so there’s a lot that needs to be done, even though a lot of progress has been made as well.”Smith said he found out about the facility from the state. He says his staff then did some research on it. The representative commended Pillen for his “desire to focus on solutions.”
