On August 21, the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the chargé d’affaires of the Russian Federation’s embassy in Vilnius and handed him a protest note over the large-scale, combined attack on Ukraine carried out overnight.
In a statement by Lithuania’s foreign policy department, it is emphasized that the continuation of terror against Ukraine by Russia, while the West and the United States are making efforts to end the war and achieve lasting peace, clearly demonstrates the Russian authorities’ refusal to abandon their aggressive aims toward Ukraine.
“And her participation in talks is hypocritical and aimed solely at buying time to continue the seizure of parts of Ukraine’s territory and to evade new Western sanctions”

A New Reality After the Strike and Lithuania’s Response
In the night of August 21, Russia carried out a combined air strike using 40 missiles and 574 drones. Ukrainian air defense destroyed 546 drones and 31 missiles.
In Lviv, dozens of buildings were damaged by the strikes: according to preliminary data, one person was killed and three were injured.
In Mukachevo, Russian forces carried out a missile strike on the territory of one of the local enterprises, with more than 10 people reported injured.
There were also reports of drone crashes in Lipoveț village, Khust district, where an outbuilding was damaged, windows in a residential building were shattered, and a power line was damaged.
These actions have drawn strong condemnation and underscore Lithuania’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty.
