The province is holding a live government briefing this morning on the wildfire situation, and possibly provide some answers for those desperate for news.
Premier John Hogan, Public Safety Minister John Haggie, and the Chair of a Cabinet Committee tasked to address needs related to the fire, Jamie Korab will be joined by Newfoundland Power President and CEO Gary Murray for this morning’s briefing.
Fire evacuees have been out of their homes for more than three weeks, and many have already been notified that they won’t have a home to go back to.
Newfoundland Power has been using technology and meter information to help identify structures that have been destroyed by fire on the Conception Bay North Shore.
Earlier this week, an estimated 203 structures were confirmed to be destroyed in communities from Kingston to Northern Bay.

Meanwhile, crews reported another good day tackling the forest fire burning in Conception Bay North.
Clear skies allowed for steady aerial attacks in the western and southern edges of the fire. Five heavy capacity helicopters worked the north edge of the blaze.
Firefighting crews from this province and Ontario worked on the ground yesterday while the Canadian Armed Forces focused on hot spots.
Firefighters from British Columbia who were working on the fire at Paddy’s Pond will join suppression efforts in Conception Bay North today.
The fires at Paddy’s Pond and Martin Lake are now listed as under control.
A portion of the access road that leads to Miguel Lake near the Bay d’Espoir Highway has reopened.
The road is only open to cabins at Miguel Lake, access to anything beyond that – including the cabins at Martin Lake and Rushy Pond, remains closed.
